Chapter 16
CALI'S POV
"I wasn't aware we needed closure Blondie," Trent says coldly and the coldness spreads over to me, wrapping around me so harshly that I flinch from the burn of the ice.
He was acting like he hadn't just run away days ago, cutting me off completely and then as soon as I ask for something as simple as closure he turns into stone?
"You may not need it to move on, but I do," I say with the coldness he had me wrapped in.
His cold green eyes falter slightly with a flash of confusion, before turning to stone once again. "Move on?"
What even is this conversation? He's acting so fucking weird, like I was the one who disappeared without contacting him once! I got the hint that he didn't want me around.
"I may have only been in one relationship my entire life, but I'm pretty sure cutting off the person you're dating for days is a clear sign," I say imperturbably.
This time when his stare wavers, it remains that way. He looks at me with a saddened expression. "I don't want this to end," he gestures between the two of us, leaving me in deep confusion as the ice wrapped around me starts melting rapidly.
"I don't understand," I state my thoughts.
He moves so his face is closer to mine, "I'm sorry about running away, I know that I should've talked to you, but running away actually worked out for me the last time so I thought maybe this time it would too and I could figure this shit out on my own before throwing it at you. The problem was that the last time I ran I didn't have someone I cared about being left behind, now I do," he says honestly and with that the ice is completely melted and I'm left in bright sun light, warming me.
"You care about me?" I question in a small voice. Apparently I got this all-wrong... But can you blame me for having doubts? I'm not used to caring so much for someone and having them run from me...
Trent slowly reaches out as if to see if I'll dodge his attempts to touch me. When I don't he takes me and lifts me onto the bed beside him. His arms don't leave me when he speaks, "Of course I do Blondie." His green eyes assess me with strong warmth in them. "More than I can comprehend," he adds in a whisper.
"Trent, what happened?" I ask seriously.
He sighs and looks away from my gaze. "My dad fired me," he says.
"Yeah I know that, the whole staff hasn't stopped talking about it wondering why. I need to know why Trent. People have been saying it was an argument with your dad, but I know it has to be more than that. You have to talk to me Trent, everyone is worried about you," I stress to get my point across.
His eyes slide back to mine. "Everyone?"
"Yes. Jake, Oscar, Genie, Thomas, Dana, Penny, the whole staff really. Everyone, Trent. We all care so much about you. You've only been at the hotel for almost a month yet you've captured the hearts of nearly everyone there. You joined our small family without even trying Trent. So of course we're all going to be worried about you," I explain.
"And you?" He questions.
I soften at his small voice as if he's not used to being cared for by so many. He should be, I don't even think he realizes how much his presence can light up an entire room. He is so full of life and maybe that's why I was so drawn to him because I felt as if all the life in me was drained. And then Trent walks into my life and starts filling that void, that empty space his brother created inside me.
