Chapter 12
"I wonder why someone would beat the shit out of Travis," Dana says as she applies my make-up.
I was hoping she wouldn't bring it up, but I knew that wasn't likely. At least we made it through most of my getting ready without talking about it.
"Don't know," I say.
"Whoever it was really fucked him up, I could barely recognize him!"
"Yeah," I agree. I wouldn't say that I was happy about what Trent did to his brother, but I wasn't upset about it.
"I've never seen Mr. Townes look so mad before. Especially when Travis was telling him to leave it be and not get the authorities involved. I don't get why he wouldn't want whoever did that to him to pay," Dana rambles.
I know why. By the piercing glare he was giving me, he must know that I told Trent about that night, there wouldn't be much else of an explanation for why his brother would beat the shit out of him. I think he knows if he goes to the authorities, I can too.
"There, all done!" Dana pulls back from me, smiling. "You look hot Cali!"
I get up and look in the mirror and my big gold eyes blink back at me in surprise. She really did a good job on me. My long blonde hair was curled and she applied more make-up than I normally did, but not too much. The colors she chose on my eyes made them look even more gold than normal.
She also picked out my outfit, an army green dress that fit snug on top and then flowed out at the waist. She let me borrow her favorite beige pea coat that matched the heels I wore.
"I don't know where he's taking you Cali, but I did good! You need to let me dress you up more often," Dana stands back admiring her work.
I laugh, "Thank you for this."
"It was my pleasure Cal! This is the first date I get to see you go one considering I've never even seen you talk to any guys outside of the ones we work with," Dana replies.
"Trent works with us," I point out.
"You know what I mean! You never showed interest in anyone before this," she says.
It's true. I dated one guy in high school, but we broke up soon after graduation when he decided long distance wouldn't work for him. Then I started school at NYU and I talked to guys here and there, but never really felt a connection to anyone. Then my whole life blew up after my first year at college, and here I am now. Going on my first date since I was eighteen.
TRENT'S POV
I raise my still bandaged hand to knock on Cali's door. I was actually kind of nervous, which surprised me, I hadn't felt this way about someone since college. This was my first date since I was twenty-one, that was four years ago.
The door swings open and I take in a sharp breath. "Fuck," I whisper. Cali blushes and looks down, a curl falling into her face. I bring up my hand and tuck it back behind her ear; she looks back up to me. "You look beautiful Blondie."
Her blush deepens, but this time she smiles. "Thank you, you look incredibly handsome Trent," she tells me.
I feel myself warm at her words. Did I just blush? Fuck.
"Shall we?" I nod to the elevators.
"Uh, yeah, let me just grab my bag," she says turning back to her room.
"You guys are so cute, wow," I hear Dana's voice from inside the room. She pops her head around the door to wave at me. I chuckle and wave back. "Have my Cali back at a reasonable hour, you hear me Townes? Take care of my best friend and don't hurt her or you'll hear from me!"
