Chapter 29
TRENT'S POV
"Dude have you talked to Jake lately?" Ollie asks me as we make our way to the ballroom where the party was being held. People are beginning to arrive and my dad's announcement will be starting the party off soon.
"No you know how busy I've been, but every time I tried getting in touch with him he couldn't meet up."
"Yeah probably because he's been shacking it up with Cali's best friend," Ollie chuckles.
My head whips in the direction of my friend. "What?"
"Apparently Jake's gotten really close to Dana and they've spent every day together since the trial," he tells me.
"Well it's about time. He's been pining after her for weeks," I smile. I was happy for him.
Ollie snorts. "Yeah maybe you should take some tips from him." I give him a look of confusion. "At least he's going after what he wants."
I frown, thinking about my relationship with Cali... or lack there of... "I'm going to talk to her tonight. I've been busy."
He rolls his eyes. "More like avoiding her."
"No, more like hoping she'd come to me finally and realize she doesn't have to figure out everything on her own," I contort.
"I think you're just scared that she doesn't feel the same for you. Maybe if you'd talk to Jake you'd figure it out finally," Ollie mutters.
"What does Jake have to do with anything?"
"Fuck, I'll just show you myself," Ollie pulls out his phone, but before he can show me whatever it is him and Jake have been trying to tell me, my dad calls for me.
"Sorry man, I have to go, show me after the announcement," I tell him quickly before heading over to where my dad was waiting for me.
CALI'S POV
I know I shouldn't be getting drunk, but it's my first time leaving my room in days and I'm finally going to have to face Trent. Dana shakes her head when I grab another glass of champagne off one of the server's trays.
"Slow down Cal," she whispers to me as we walk further into the room that brings back haunting memories.
"I'm fine. I just need to ease my nerves," I assure her.
Her eyes soften. "Everything will be okay. The security is tight and Trent will be here. You know he wouldn't let anything happen to you."
She thought I was worried about him, but it was Trent that really had me unraveling.
"Hello ladies, you both look beautiful," I hear Jake's voice from behind us. I smile and thank him as Dana thanks him in another way. I hide a smile and look away as they kiss. I spot Ollie making his way to us with an irritated expression on his face.
"Hey, you okay?" I ask as soon as he's close enough.
His eyes soften as he hears me. "Yeah, it's nothing," he tells me, but I don't believe him. "Really Cali, I'm okay," he smiles. His eyes drift over to where Dana and Jake were standing still lip-locked. "Seems like they're happy."
I laugh lightly. "Yeah, apparently so."
"Attention," A familiar voice calls out into a microphone. I turn around to the stage where Mr. Townes stood. "I'd like to thank you all for coming out tonight to celebrate not only the New Year, but a new beginning. I would like to welcome onto the stage my son and your new CEO of Townes Hotels, Trent Townes."
