Chapter 14
TRENT'S POV
I was on my way to my dad's penthouse, something about a family emergency. It was my day off and I had originally planned on spending most of it with Cali since she was only working a half-day. She gets off in ten minutes so I text her that I might be running late for lunch.
When I get off the elevator I find my dad and Travis waiting. But what shocks me is my grandparents sitting on the couch, I very rarely see my dad's parents unless something important is going on... so this must actually be an emergency. I cautiously walk towards them as they all stare at me.
"Is this an intervention?" I joke when no one says anything.
My dad frowns at my question and my grandmother's lips curl up in disgust. I look to my brother and he turns away, avoiding my stare. I then look at my grandfather and he seems disappointed.
"Seriously what's going on?"
"Trent... I had so much faith in you. I can't even put into words how disappointed I am in you," My dad says, a look of frustration forming on his face.
"I'm lost," I say my thoughts aloud.
My grandmother speaks up this time, "How could you do this to your own brother Trent?"
They knew.
I turn to look at Travis, who keeps his gaze on the ground. Bastard.
"What is the meaning of this Trent?" My grandfather asks.
Everyone's eyes are on me, but I can't give them an answer. Not without breaking Cali's trust. I stay quiet and I can see the anger boiling up inside my dad.
"Trent, so help me, you better give me an explanation in the next minute or you're out!" My dad shouts.
"Out?" I question.
"You're out of this company. I built this all from nothing and I'll be damned if I let you take over and tear it to the ground because of your issues!" His face is turning red from shouting.
I can feel anger slowly building up inside me now. "Issues? What the fuck is that supposed to mean?" I spit out, my hands clenching at my sides.
"Exactly this!" He gestures at me. "You have no control over your anger! You act impulsively! From ruining my relationship to dropping out of college and disappearing! I tried to have faith that you changed Trent, but then you go and do this!" He yells out with a hand pointed at Travis, who still sits quietly saying nothing.
"Ruining your relationship?" Did he really just have the audacity to bring that up? Of all things to call me out on? "You were fucking married to my mom! Forgive me for telling that woman the fucking truth, it wasn't my fault she wanted nothing to do with you once she knew you had a dying wife in the hospital!"
My dad begins shaking with anger. "You had no right to tell her in the first place!" He counters and I'm reaching the end of my patience very quickly.
"Enough of this!" My grandfather interferes. "We are not here to discuss that. Trent will you please just tell us why you did this to your brother?"
I look back to Travis, my last tiny bit of hope that he would own up to his mistakes, and show me that the Travis I once knew wasn't completely gone. But I should've known better. Maybe it was all a lie my whole life, maybe he really has been a bastard all along and I turned a blind eye to it.
"I'd like to know too," he says as he finally looks up to me. His black and blue eyes narrowed at me almost mockingly.
"I can't tell you," I finally grit out.
