Love at first sight. It's a concept that hundreds of different movies, books, and plays have been based on. People all over the world wonder whether it's actually possible - to fall in love with a person within seconds of meeting them. Nobody ever talks about the possibility of hate at first sight.
You meet Hirai Momo in kindergarten and you dislike her immediately. The teacher introduces her, the new student, to the classroom. All eyes are on the small little girl in the yellow sundress as the teacher speaks. Most of the children are looking at her excitedly, getting ready to ambush her with questions as soon as the teacher was done with her speech. For some reason, you felt no sense of excitement whatsoever. You felt annoyance, distaste, and all sorts of other nasty emotions that a five year old probably shouldn't have been feeling. Just as you had predicted, everybody rushed over to Momo as soon as the teacher had finished introducing her. Most of the people around her were girls since the boys were too busy worrying about their intense game of "who could squeeze the most glue onto their hands," which left you alone, in the corner, watching the rest of your friends talk to the new girl Even at five years old, you had a feeling that Momo would bring nothing good into your life.
A week passes by and the excitement over the new student dies instantly. Seeing as you're all five olds, it's not very surprising. Everybody has the attention span of a goldfish when they're that age, which turns out to be a great thing for you. You no longer have to deal with seeing or hearing about Momo all day everyday, and your friends gradually stop talking to Momo once they realize that she'd much rather hang out with the boys.
You figure out quickly that Momo is a strange girl. She talks to the guys instead of the girls, she never plays with dolls, and she even plays in the mud with the rest of the (annoying) boys in your class during recess. The amount of times that the girl has gotten yelled at for getting her school uniform dirty is ridiculous, but you can't help but smile everytime that she gets in trouble.
You have your first real interaction with Momo on arts and crafts day. It's the only day of school that you actually love, as well as the day that you get to shine. All of your friends love the things that you make for them and all of the attention is on you, and you'd be lying if you said that you didn't love every second of it.
You're cutting up a piece of paper as your friends and the other kids in the classroom whisper around you about nonsense things. One of your friends is watching you intently, leaning in closely to you to get a better look at what your making and you have to push her head back repeatedly, trying to focus on your project. Future you would probably laugh at how serious you were being. You're just making a chain of paper people, and it's definitely not the first time that you've done it, but you're serious about it anyway.
