The curtain from the dining room closed rather too quickly. Two silhouettes retreated backwards and were out of sight at lightning speed.Cleopatra pulled her lips into her mouth and felt her cheeks warming up.
Trust her parents to do the creepiest of things while she was having a rom-com moment with her crush. She pretended not to have seen them, a slow anger starting to simmer within her.
"See you tomorrow Max, don't forget to go over the presentation uh...goodnight," she smiled nervously and took hold of her bag before bolting out of the car.
"Goodnight," he whispered after her.
He smiled to himself and watched Cleopatra run off towards her house.
"I'm assuming that was Max?" Her father started off the minute she entered the house.
Oh boy, here we go again.
"Yes dad that was Max," she let him know, making her way to the living room where she could hear the distinct sounds of a telenovela on the television and inhumane giggling from her best friend. She was in high spirits again.
"Well I don't like him. He's pompous and arrogant. He didn't even come up to greet us, so how will I know if the boy my daughter is spending so much time with is good or not? He could be a bad influence princess I don't want him contaminating you," he spoke from behind her, following her to the living room.
Cleopatra stopped walking and turned around to face her father, a loud chuckle threatening to escape her mouth. Was he being serious?
Judging by the stoic expression on his face, Cleopatra was sure her dad was being serious. His arms were even folded across his chest as though Maxwell himself were standing in front of him. "Dad, you say that about everyone. Max is just my lab partner he's harmless."
Mr. Banks looked at her, seemingly unconvinced. "There's only room for one man in my life and that's you," she smiled cheesily, trying to appease him.
It seemed to do the trick.
"Good, I was just making sure you knew that. I don't want any harm coming to my little princess and if he tries anything funny make sure to tell him that your father may or may not own a gun," he told his daughter in a warning tone with a finger pointed at her.
"Sure..." she replied, letting the word drag out before turning around and hurrying to the living room before he could come up with more ways of threatening Maxwell.
"Oh honey look...you're back. I had absolutely no idea. How did the dinn-I mean assignment go?" Mrs. Banks asked her daughter awkwardly, not bothering to make eye contact as she sipped something from her mug while placing things in the box in front of her.
Alexis also failed to meet her gaze as the closed box in front of her was somehow more interesting. Cleopatra stood at the entrance of the living room and looked between her mother and best friend, rolling her eyes. Poor unsuspecting little Ruby was fast asleep near the television hugging a plush toy closely to her.
