Chapter Two: The Break In

Charlotte awake the following morning to the sound of a bang making her jump awake, she blinked the sleep out of her eyes confused about what was going on; her mind drifted back to what had happened the night before and the blonde quickly clambered out of bed worried that it was her injured guest.

Carefully she opened her bedroom door only to find two strange men standing in her hallway, she squeaked shocked as they turned their attention to her before one of them made a grab for her as she tried to escape.

“David don’t… she saved me,” said a voice making the man stop and look at his boss, who limped out of the guest room while Charlotte backed herself into a wall; she looked at the man that seemed to be in-charge and she was surprised to see that it was the man that she had brought into her home.

“Sergio, you should be resting,” the other man said as he moved to help the Spaniard, who winced as he felt his entire body go weak before he turned his attention to the blonde; he didn’t know why she had saved him but he was grateful for her help.

“David why don’t you go and get some breakfast… I’ll deal with things from here,” the man said as he carefully helped Sergio back into the guest room; he didn’t want the Spaniard ripping out his stitches.

Charlotte watched as David huffed annoyed before he walked out of her apartment, she watched him go confused before she carefully followed after the other two men.

“Is there a reason you’ve broken into my apartment?” the blonde asked curiously as Sergio was helped back onto the bed, she looked at him confused as the other man chuckled amused at her question.

“We are sorry about that… we just needed to make sure that he was okay, don’t worry about the mess outside either; it’s been dealt with,” the man said as he checked Sergio’s stitches, he was impressed that the blonde had done the stitches so well.

Charlotte nodded her head as she tried to wrap her head around what was going on, she wondered briefly if she was still asleep.

“Gracias,” Sergio said as he watched the blonde, he knew that he would have died if she hadn’t of saved his life and he wanted to find a way to repay her; she had done so much for him and she didn’t even know who he was.

“It was nothing,” Charlotte said shrugging, she eyed the man curious about what made him so important that two men had broken into her apartment; she knew that whatever it was it couldn’t be a good thing.

Sergio’s eyes flickered around the room wondering briefly how long his injuries would keep him on bed rest, he knew that he’d done himself a lot of damage and Stefan wasn’t going to let him injure himself even more.

“It’s not safe to move you yet,” the private doctor said as he continued to check Sergio over, the Spaniard looked at him wide-eyed as he realised what was being suggested; he glanced over at Charlotte who was watching them from the doorway.

“Would you mind terribly if we borrowed your spare room for a week or two?” Stefan asked as he looked at Charlotte, he didn’t want to risk causing damage to his patient and the only answer that he had was for Sergio to stay here until it was safe to move him; there were people out looking for him, people that wanted him dead.

“No,” Sergio snapped as he pushed himself up slightly, he didn’t want to involve the blonde in any of this; she didn’t deserve to have her life destroyed just because she had saved him.

Stefan rolled his eyes as he glanced at his boss, he knew why Sergio didn’t want to stay with the blonde however since no one knew where he was then it made perfect sense that he stayed there.

“It’ll be fine… I’m sure Charlotte won’t mind,” Stefan said as he flashed a smile to the blonde, who nodded her head as she wondered why the Spaniard didn’t want to stay where he was.

“There see problem solved,” Stefan said making Sergio glare at him, he wished that he could get up from the bed so that he could throttle his doctor; he had a feeling that he knew what he was trying to do.

Charlotte crossed her arms as she watched the two men, she didn’t know what to expect but she had a feeling that things were going to be interesting; she nibbled on her lower lip as Stefan changed Sergio’s bandages.

“Okay, you are not to do any exercise… I don’t want you ripping out your stitches or doing any muscle damage to your leg,” Stefan said making Sergio huff as he crossed his arm, he looked over at Charlotte who was still dressed in her coral cami top and shorts; she hadn’t bothered changing since she was to curious for her own good.

“Will you be breaking into my apartment again?” Charlotte asked wondering how often, she would be seeing not only Stefan but David as well; she knew that the other man didn’t like her even if she had saved his boss’s life.

Stefan chuckled amused while Sergio looked at her with a small smile; he knew that this wasn’t ideal but he hoped that he would be able to walk away at the end without any problems.

“So what do you do for a living?” Sergio asked as he sipped on his coffee, his brown eyes watching Charlotte with interest; he had asked David to leave them alone so that he could get to know the blonde, even if the other man didn’t like the idea.

“I’m a doctor at hospital Universitario de la princesa,” Charlotte said as she looked at him, she still hadn’t gotten much out of him but she knew that it was a matter of time before she found out what was going on.

Sergio nodded his head as he watched her, he didn’t know what it was about Charlotte but she interested him; he had only spent a short amount of time with her and he was already starting to like her.

“What about you? What do you do?” Charlotte asked hoping to get some answers, she had already attempted several times to find out what was going on and she kept being shut down about what was going on; no one wanted to give her the answers that she wanted.

Sergio sighed as he ran a hand through his hair, he had no intentions of telling the blonde what he did; he didn’t want to frighten her off and he knew that he needed to keep who he really was under wraps.

“It doesn’t matter,” Sergio said as he watched her, he knew that she wouldn’t be happy with his answer but he was doing it to not only to protect himself but to protect Charlotte as well.

The blonde sighed as she looked at him annoyed, she crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow at him; she wanted answers and she was going to get them.

“Just trust me on this… it’s better if you don’t know so much,” Sergio said as he looked down at his drink, he hoped to god that the blonde listened and didn’t look into who he was; he didn’t want another innocent persons blood on his hands, he didn’t know what he would do if Charlotte ended up the same way.

The blonde watched him as a bad feeling started to form in her stomach, she knew that this could only mean trouble but she couldn’t help but feel drawn in.
