Chapter Eight ~ Searching

Toby and Michael walked through the caves. "These look more like mines, not caves!" Michael observed, looking around at everything.

"A lot of old mines did!" Toby said, "let's find the others quickly so we can get back!"

Michael nodded in agreement and they both walked faster. As they walked through the tunnels, they heard shrieking in the distance.

"What is that?" Michael asked, seeming creeped out.

"I don't know! But it's getting closer!" Toby said, grabbing Michael's arm and pulling him towards a crevice in the nearby wall. They slipped into it just in time, the huge creatures flew in and circled the room, shrieking.

"What do we do??" Michael whispered, watching the beasts fly around the tunnel.

"I don't know!" Toby whispered back, watching them as well.

After awhile, they flew away down one of the stone corridors. "Now's our chance!" Michael said, Toby nodded and they both ran for their lives. They heard more screeching, but they kept running.

Suddenly, they came to what they thought was a cliff edge. They stopped abruptly, but the creatures flew towards them. They would've knocked them off to their deaths, but suddenly, Dex seemingly ran out of nowhere and pushed them put of the way. The giant bats flew into Dex instead, knocking him off the edge. Dex grabbed the creature that ran into him, and they all heard the thud of them landing.

Lydia screamed and started sobbing, running to the cliffs edge. Kris just stared in shock. "We.....we should go.....before more come!" Toby said, emotion laced in his words. Michael gently helped Lydia up, and they walked away from that place.

I walked around the maze of tunnels. I knew where I was and how to get back because there were arrows painted on the walls pointing towards the control room/office.

I looked around, I didn't see any signs of anyone! Or anything. I walked around a corner and came face to face with a big phrase spray painted on the wall. It said: "BEWARE THE WENGIEBATS"

I looked at it and then, I pulled my phone out and took a picture of it. I walked down the tunnel, and then I heard a deafening shriek. I turned around and saw a wengiebat flying right at me. I let out a scream and ran.

The thing chased after me, I ran towards the opening that Michael had brought me through, only to discover that it was completely blocked off! I turned around and saw the bat flying towards me, I gasped and turned sharply and watched it crash into a wall. I ran away, then more came out and chased me.

I ran over what looked like a bridge, then I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder. I turned to see a bat dig his fangs into my shoulder. I screamed and swung my arm into it, making it let go of me and fly away. The others followed, I got up to walk back but winced in pain because of the bite on my shoulder. I carefully took my coat off that shoulder to survey the damage.

It was red and bleeding. There were two fang marks in my shoulder and a gash. I ripped a piece off my shirt and carefully wrapped it. Now it's my head and my shoulder. Great! I thought. I carefully made my way back to the office.
