Love Story [COMPLETED]

Chapter Thirteen ~ Regrets and Redemption

Kris sat on his bed, thinking. He felt horrible about what happened with Tao. He was the one who had shot the gun and killed the wengiebat. He wished he could've saved Tao somehow, he regretted holding that grudge against him for so long.

If only I had made things right! He thought, looking at a picture of them in second grade. He and Tao had been inseperable. But then that thing happened in the fourth grade. Afterwards, Kris tried to stay his friend, but the grudge he held against him was too strong. And not too soon after that happened, their friendship fell through.

They were like strangers. Kris sighed. He was ready to ask Tao for forgiveness, but then he started showing interest in Rae. He could tell by the way he looked at her, the way he talked to her, the way his gaze would follow her around the room. Kris' anger against Tao had flared up again, for more reasons then one this time. Then, on the ski trip, Tao had asked her out and she said yes. Kris was devastated.

Tao had the audacity to go after his girl, the girl he loved more then life. But now Tao was dead and Rae was heartbroken, and the only thing Kris had left was regret. A lot of it. He remembered that day, that horrible day. He had shot up at the wengiebat, and by a stroke of luck he killed it. But the downfall was that he had to climb to get to Rae and Tao. And by the time he got there, it was too late.

"Kris? Rae is here! She's downstairs!" His sister, Fei, said. Kris nodded.

"I'll be right down." He said, Fei nodded and then went to tell Rae.

When Kris went downstairs, he saw Rae standing by the window in the living room. She looked like an angel, his angel. At least, he hoped. He walked over to her.

"Hey Rae!" He said, with a smile.

"Hi Kris!" She replied, returning the smile. But he could tell that she was still mourning Tao.

"How are you?" He asked her. He wanted to take her in his arms and kiss her. But he always wanted to do that.

"I'm alright, I came to see how you are!" She said, looking up at him. Kris smiled at her, she was so kind and caring!

"I'm ok. I'm just having regrets." He said, then he asked, " do you want to talk outside?" Rae nodded and they went out the back door.

"What kind of regrets? If you don't mind me asking." She said, as they walked down towards the woods.

"I just wished I could've done more. I was two levels below you, so I had to climb to get to you. But by the time I got there, it was too late!" He said, starting to get emotional. Rae surprised him by taking his hand, to comfort him. He told her everything, everything that had happened between him and Tao and his feelings for her and why he had gotten mad at Tao again. When he was done, he didn't know what Rae would say or do.

"Is there still a chance for me?" He asked, gazing down at her.

"Yes, but not now. It's too soon!" She said. Kris nodded, understanding.

"I'll wait for you, for as long as it takes!" He told her, taking her hand in his. She smiled up at him, a genuine smile this time.

"Thank you!" She said softly. "I almost forgot, I wanted to show you this. Tao kept a video diary. He had two videos for it on his phone, but he had a separate device for the actual thing. His mom said I could borrow it!" She pulled out a video recorder, then went through the videos on it until she found the one she was looking for. Kris stepped closer to her so he could see it. When he heard Taos' voice, a surge of emotions went through him.

" 'Hey! So, as you know, I started going to a new school today. Kris is going to this school too, it is awkward. But I wish it wasn't, I wish we were still friends. I regret what I did to him, I wish it never happened. When he saw me, he stared at me for a minute, then walked away like he never even knew me. I feel like I shouldn't have cared, but I did. I cared a lot. I hope he can forgive me someday! I want to be friends with him again." *Short pause* "but anyways, I met this guy named Blake. He was really nice and he introduced me to his group of friends. One of the girls in the group, her name is Rae, is the most beautiful girl I've ever seen! I suddenly got very clumsy around her. I hope my crush on her isn't obvious, I want to ask her out someday. When we are older. The only thing though is that Kris is in the group as well. But that's ok, maybe he'll forgive me and we can be friends again! I hope so!' "

When the video was over, Kris stared at the screen for a minute. "He wanted to be friends again. After all that time!" He said. Rae nodded.

"He never stopped caring about you. Ever!" She said, looking up at him. Kris sighed.

"I wish I knew!" He said, sounding regretful. Rae put her arms around him and hugged him. Kris smiled and hugged her back. "Thank you for coming, and showing this to me!" He whispered.

"Of course! You needed to see it!" She whispered back. After she left, Kris was very hopeful. Deep down, he knew that someday, she would be his.

I walked back home from Kris' house. My visit and talk with him made me feel better. Kris always had a way of making me feel better. He asked me to be his! I thought, as I walked back home.

The thought of being Kris' girlfriend excited me, probably because I had feelings for him as well as Tao. I smiled. Not yet. It's too soon! I thought. I had to first get to the place where my memories with Tao wouldn't hurt anymore. And I had to wait until I felt like I wasn't betraying him.

When I was ready, I would give love another try. I walked home feeling comforted. I had spent a lot of time with Lydia lately, we were helping each other get better. We were doing well, all of us. But there were hard days, and I knew that there would be more in the future. To grieve is to be human. But I knew that we would be okay!
