It was stuffy in the tent. Gabriela was sleeping with no pillow under her head but rather between her legs and Selina was curled up in a ball hugging a spongebob plushie. It was cute.
You sat up and checked the time on your phone. It was 3:32am. You hadn't even fallen asleep yet which meant you weren't going to be sleeping any time soon. Sad times. You sat up straight and rubbed your eyes, pulling many of the hundreds of blankets piled on top of you to the side and clambering out of your small home on all fours. It was definitely cooler outside. Still pitch black to say the least.
You could barely make out the looming trees scattered all around and wobbled whilst standing up. You decided it would be better to take one of the thinner blankets with you.
One habit you had developed throughout your teen years was shooting practice in the night. Your father used to grill you hard on target efficiency and the only way you could get out with any breathing space was to sneak out late at night, shooting up a few scrap containers on the dock, ready to run back to practice the next day to surprise your father with some refined technique. They caught you one time crawling out of bed, a gun stuffed into the back of your jeans and you had to pretend you were sleep walking- fully dressed. Didn't end well. Apparently it was unsafe.
You knew where the guns were. In the van boot in Yoongi's prized sports bag marked 'not weapons'.
He probably wouldn't appreciate the fact that you stole the key from his coat pocket, but Jin had left his coat hanging on the outside of his tent. It was too tempting an opportunity for any professional night-walker to pass up. This definitely was not stealing.
With as much stealth and quiet you could muster, you opened the boot and rummaged through using your eager hands and finally found what you were looking for. A little unzipping and closing up later, you stuffed the gun under your hoodie and pulled the blanket over your head to encompass you whole. It felt cosy.
Being alone felt strange now. No one holding you or talking to you. Not a voice joking or teasing. Stood alone on the edge of a forest. Unfamiliar déjà vu running through your mind. You almost wished someone would join you. You stuffed your hands into your pockets and fumbled around, hoping to find a tissue to wipe your runny nose from the cold. Hurrah, tissue found. But what was the square thing?
"Hmm?"
You pulled out the piece of plastic from your pocket and stared uncannily at it. It took a few moments for your eyes to focus in the darkness on the item and even when they did, you had no idea what it was. It was just too dark and too late for your mind to adjust and think properly. Nonetheless, it was strange. Another minute of soulless staring passed when it clicked.
"It can't be-" you pulled out your other hand from under the blanket and ran your thumb along the other edge, feeling a bridge.
Is this a memory card?
Why would you have a memory card in your pocket? Nothing made sense. What was it for? Who had given it to you? Had you picked it up by mistake? What was on it?
Your phone buzzed in your back jean pocket, startling you from the heavy feeling in your chest. There was no way. You took out your phone and turned it on, typed in the passkey and pulled off the back, slipping in the SD card into the alloted slot and pressing the case firmly back on. Your eyes scanned the screen impatiently, the desire to know it's contents driving you crazy. It seemed to be taking forever what in reality was only 2 minutes. A notification popped up.
*File too big.*
A hopeless sigh left your lips and you grumbled to yourself. What a load of bull. Why did life have to treat you this way? If anything, that one notification gave even more closure as to what this small drive contained. A big file held many secrets. A big file held lots of valuable information. Unless it was something completely useless to you like someone's really long christmas list- which you doubted.
