L E O N A
The howling got louder as I ran from the pack house. Of fucking course, he brought his pack to make sure I didn't leave. I was not about to stay there to be smothered with his presence. The moonlight bounced off my chocolate-colored skin as my feet ran as fast as I could make them. My curly hair flew backward as I dodged trees. The thundering footsteps of multiple wolves became closer and louder.
'How did I think I could make it to the line without anybody noticing.' I thought to myself while pushing into my highest gear. 'I can do it.' I encouraged myself.
Run
Was the only thing I could think of. I ran onto the neighboring pack territory. They had stopped chasing me after I made it through 3 of them. I didn't stop― I couldn't stop―until I reached an unoccupied cave. I needed to catch my breath. My chest expanded rapidly. I was so ready to live finally!'
I am by myself. I can make my own decisions. My neglectful parents probably don't even know I'm gone. I smiled with so much happiness. I can live my life! No one can hold back Leona ever again. I jumped up with a newfound purpose and twirled out of the cave.
I was twirling, jumping, spinning and just being weird but having fun as I made more distance between me and my ex-pack and their gamma. My mate. Eww right! But it's whatever as I ran into my future.
I hopped into a river and laughed as I wet myself. Tyla, My inner tiger, came up to the surface. I felt my eyes change to their fiery orange. She loves the water. I found that out after she forced a part shift at the pool. Thankfully no one noticed me ever and she didn't force a full shift. Only my eyes.
"We got rejected..." Whispered Tyla as I watched the fish pass our feet.
"Yea. I'm so sorry." I apologized. I felt Tyla going to something else but I had to finish telling her my true thoughts.
"I sorta thought I was going to be. Not because of you though Tyla. It's my fault I wasn't the one you should have been stuck with my pathetic excuse for a human. You deserve to roam free and be with your mate but I messed that up by being such a failure. Maybe if I told somebody about you, he wouldn't have rejected us." I said twiddling my fingers.
Tyla chuffed. "Don't you ever think bad about yourself Leona! You are astonishing. No one could ever replace you as my human. We are together forever. Mates or not, I wouldn't want to leave you for anyone. They didn't deserve us if they would have rejected you if you didn't have a shift."
I just nodded hopefully ending the conversation because if she continues I will feel worse. She and him were literally made for each other. Of course, I felt horrible for not being as valuable as Tyla is and messing up her relationship that had their souls entwined. I mean technically I was entangled also but I felt as if it wasn't as strong as her bond with our ex- mate's wolf, Trinton.
I swam for a little while and dried off near a boulder. The sun was coming up as I began searching for a human town to rest in. I have been saving up my money since I was 13. Every birthday and Christmas I only asked for 700 dollars. I stacked up so that on my 18th Birthday I would leave but only if my mate ―if I even had one― wasn't in my pack.
Just my luck that I did have a mate. One that did not want a 'human.' I am so glad that they didn't and still don't know. I didn't want that cheating spoiled brat anyway. No, I am not even going to give him the satisfaction to be in my mind. I guess my rejection is a story for another day because today I am not in the mood.
I rushed past a tree when I heard the familiar rumble of cars. I looked forward and was greeted by a road. A road that looked like it would lead me to a city. I walked along the side of the street, making a note of my surroundings. I walked for about 20 minutes before I was greeted with a pretty little city. Its buildings made it look like it was a wonderful place, full of hope!
People were just waking up by the look of it. The sun was just rising so that makes sense. I looked for a hotel or a motel so I could sleep. I wanted to collect my thoughts entirely and make a full plan.
I asked a girl who was walking down the sidewalk to give me directions to the nearest one. She suggested to me the Golden Crest Hotel; It was a clean, & cheap hotel down the street. I thanked her and made my way down towards it. I paid for a day and a night there which was surprisingly 30 dollars. I made myself comfortable and drifted away into dreamland.
I awoke to the sound of arguing outside of my door. I yawned as I got up to see what it was. I walked over to the hotel door and peeked out of it slightly. These people were screaming at each other. It looked like a pretty heated argument.
"How could you?! In the place I work at? Of all places!?" One of them yelled. He was taller than me but everyone is taller than me. He was angrily crying I think. His hair was amazing though. It was a pretty deep blue and it complimented his eyes. Why am I paying attention to that right now?
"Baby! It's not what you thin-" The chick said trying to calm the other dude down, I'm guessing. She was half naked and had hickies everywhere. She was cut off by the angry man.
"Not what I think? NOT WHAT I THINK!?! I found you, naked in the bed with your assistant. My BROTHER!." He screamed. He was attracting more than just my attention as more people came out of their rooms to watch. The cheater must have seen this.
"Babe. Come in. You are making a scene." She said in a whispery tone. I wanted to laugh but the tea was just getting juicy.
"I'm not your babe. No. I have a right to be making a scene. You cheated on me with my flesh and blood. IN the hotel where I WORK at. After being together for 6 years? All of those memories down the drain. You know what? MYUNG-JAE! You can have her." Smurf, the guy with the blue hair exclaimed as he took off a very expensive ring off his ring finger. Oop. She was cheating on her fiancee with his brother. That is just extremely jacked up!
The girl looked so shocked that I wanted to laugh. Without knowing it, I laughed at the predicament out loud. Smurf looked down the hallway to me and shrugged. He walked out of the hallway after that. The noise was over so I went back to bed. Unless it's a life-or-death situation I can sleep through anything.
All that drama awoke me so I did not go back to sleep. I guess I can't sleep through everything. After 15 minutes of just laying there, I got up and started my day. I showered and put on a guest robe that they gave out here. My clothes had to be washed and I still had to figure out what I was going to do. I was going to definitely... After I got some food in me.
I skipped out to the breakfast buffet, the hotel provided. It was like an all-you-can-eat buffet. Good. Because I eat like a pig. The more food, the better. I dug into the pancakes and stuffed my face until I was full. I was drinking my apple juice when I heard the faint cry of a male.
I looked around but didn't see anyone. Time for investigation Leona. I smiled at my weirdness. I went closer to the sound of the cries. Then suddenly there stood Smurf crying. His face is in a laundry bucket with a half-eaten pancake in his hand. I didn't know what to do.
"Hi!" I greeted him with a smile on my face as I waved at him. He was still crying when he looked at my face. My lips pouted as I saw his sad eyes. "Heartbroken huh?" I whispered but knew the answer.
"How did you know?" I could have chuckled but I didn't ―just replied. "I have been through it too. But yours seems worse. So Fuck them!" I said trying to make him laugh.
"My brother already did." He said while taking a bite out of the pancake he had. Well, that didn't work.
"Yikes! You dodged a major bullet then my friend." I commented. He shrugged, and the water that was cascading down his face slowly came to a stop. I was glad I could help. I think I did.
"The pancakes are really good here. I ate like 15 of them." I told him as he finished off his pancake. He nodded and looked at my face.
"Thanks...I don't how you are so good at consoling me. Normally, I am inconsolable." He stated as he wiped his face of the tears. I just rubbed his back and fixed his pretty hair.
"Normally, I don't see guys showing emotion besides lust or anger so you are a breath of fresh air." I joked as a woman came into the laundry room.
"You got over me that quickly? And with this brown-skinned hoe?! You are no better than me! I thought that I was in the wrong but I was being played by you!" She screamed pointing at us. We both jumped away from each other.
