If we worship God because we are afraid of punishment and Hell, then we are not worshipping God at all. If we worship God because we hope to receive a reward now and in the future an entry to Heaven, then we are not worshipping God at all.
To worship God is to seek him entirely for himself, and not for any gift he might give. He is himself the reward of our worship, and he becomes present with us, and in us, and to us, when we worship him without fear of punishment or desire for gain, but wholly for his own worth.
