I remember 1939 when I heard in the radio, that Germany invaded to Poland. I was just 18 years old and fresh out of school. I don't know what will happen or how long this whole situation is going to last. I didn't know that everything in the world would change and what my life would hold for me. But I'd like to start at the beginning of my war.

I was outside, hanging up the laundry. It's a beautiful sunny fall day, my short brown hair flew in the breeze. It's 7pm so my dad had to come home from work at any minute. „Evangeline!" I hear my father yell. Just In time like always, I thought to myself. I waved at him, he walked up to me to give me kiss on the cheek. I smiled to myself but he already walked inside, to my Mom.
Ten minutes later I was done with laundry, when I walked inside, I didn't hear my annoying little siblings. So I walked into the livingroom where everyone was sitting or standing next to the radio. I was confused. What is so interesting in that moment? Why is everyone listening so intensely? I walked closer to hear it.
„Germany invaded Poland! The Nazis are fighting for more habitat in the east of Europe!" I didn't understand. Why would they do that. Later I learned that all of this is happening because of Adolf Hitler, rich chancellor of Germany, and soon to be Führer.

So my whole family is know living in fear, the fear that the Nazis may come and invade our country and hometown. But nothing happend here. Until 8 December 1941. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. That's when the US declared to be apart of this terrible war. On 11 December 1941 the US declared to war against Germany and Italy. I couldn't wait any longer, till all of this is ending. So I decided something that would change my whole live.
