"Isn't Todd Williams the father of Alice Williams? Y'know, the girl who ran off with the AX400?" Hank asked, looking at Connor through the front mirror. Connor looked over at KX, who was looking through files.

"According to the records, yes. His wife left him, taking their daughter with them. That means Alice was an android. The AX400, otherwise known as Kara, ran off with Alice during one of Todd's drug-induced rage fits that would have resulted in Alice's death had Kara not stepped in."

An uncomfortable, solemn silence soon followed KX's statement, Hank muttering profanities under his breath due to the shock of it.

Thanks to a scan, KX was able to tell that both Hank and Connor were feeling guilty for attempting to chase and arrest the two of them in the past; when they were still fugitives. But Hank had managed to convince Captain Fowler to drop the case and let them go, at least, that's what KX had heard.

Hank pulled up to a dreary looking house, it's exterior a dull brown. It appeared to be a place of great sadness and pain; it held that air to it in its appearance. It was only accentuated by the pouring rain and cloudy skies.

KX could only register and vaguely acknowledge the feel of the rain on his artificial skin, and the chilly air around him. Non-deviant androids couldn't feel physically either, at least, not much.

They were aware when something was touching them. They knew if it was warm or cold, rainy or snowy, windy, sunny. They knew if something was smooth or bumpy. These things were vaguely felt, barely there. Acknowledged and categorized, but never felt.

A deviant android could feel all that stuff like how a human could. It wasn't just categorization for them. It was all real.

Of course, KX didn't know that. Connor did, for reasons that should be pretty obvious by now.

KX was the first to go to the door, despite Hank's protests saying it was best for KX to stay behind him. Connor knew that Hank was getting protective over KX, like he had over him.

"DPD, open up." KX called out after knocking on the door. No response. KX knocked again. Again, no response. He stepped back.

"I don't think he's home." KX said with a soft sigh, preparing to go back to the car. Hank rolled his eyes, before kicking the door open...it was unlocked.

Connor and KX shared a look.

"Is...is he allowed to do that?" KX whispered. Connor shrugged, gesturing for KX to follow him inside.

The house had an eerie air to it, one that even KX noticed and didn't enjoy all that much. Hank had his gun drawn as he walked slowly throughout the living room.

"KX, you go look around upstairs. Connor's saying down here with me." KX didn't say anything as he ventured upstairs, to find the door to a bedroom open. Likely Todd's.

He slowly crept into the bedroom, making sure Todd wasn't in there. Once he was sure it was clear, he started to do what humans called "snooping."

Something odd caught his attention from the corner of his eye. There was gun ammo and a pill bottle on the bedside table. On closer inspection, the pill contained very strong anti-depressants.

Severe Clinical Depression. Likely from losing his daughter twice.

Closing his eyes briefly, he opened them so he could run a scan of the room. He saw a strange residue on the floor, walking over and crouching by it.

Red ice. Drug addict. That's one thing that matches up.

He stood up, finding nothing else of use in Todd's bedroom. But the moment he left, he noticed the other open door at the end of the hall, and the faint lavender light pouring out. Was it Alice's room?

The moment he stepped inside, he was overwhelmed with an odd sensation. Almost like emotion. There was a history in that room.

He ran a scan of the bedroom, finding Thirium traces on the floor. The slightest frown tugged at his lips. An android had been hurt. For some reason, the idea of that made him feel...bad?

He approached a pink box he saw on the dresser, a turned key sitting in the lock. He lifted the lid, to see an old photo. The photo was one of Todd, a woman who seemed to be his wife, and a toddler. The human Alice. A tiny, fleeting smile graced his face as he saw a once happy family. Something that seemed somewhat distant from him, like he missed it.

...but why would he miss it if he never experienced it?

An image flashed before his eyes. A somewhat blurry image, but an image nonetheless.

A woman with brown hair was cradling a toddler in her arms. He was unable to tell the gender of the child, but he noted how they bore a resemblance to their mother; who gazed down at them with gentle eyes and a soft smile.

He blinked, rubbing at his eyes as the image abruptly cut away. That was...strange. A quick diagnostics scan showed that there was nothing wrong with any of his parts or systems. So that made it stranger.

He put down the photo, but felt himself go rigid at the next thing he saw. It was a pile of children's drawings, but the first one was dark.

It was a drawing of a female android, likely Kara, bleeding Thirium from the side of her head; a man—Todd, standing over her with a deep frown, his "fists" covered with the Thirium. On closer inspection, her arm had been ripped off. KX's led flickered between yellow and red, before finally settling on the deep, vibrant red.

His head shot up when he heard an unfamiliar voice from downstairs. It belonged to a man, borderline shouting.

It was Todd.

KX walked on his toes as he slowly made the way down the stairs, trying to avoid making any noise. He had his gun drawn, as Todd was considered unstable and dangerous and extremely unpredictable.

When he finally reached the first floor, his feet firmly on the ground, he decided to speak up.

"Todd Williams, we must take you in for questioning regarding the murders of the Detroit Ripper. Cooperate, and everything will work out fine." KX spoke with an authority he didn't know he had in his programming.

Todd stared at him, before his eyes hardened as he caught sight of the led on KX's temple, realizing he was an android. Hank and Connor had their guns drawn too, not liking the look that Todd was giving KX.

"Just put your hands on your head, and let us escort you to the station." Connor tried, voice gentle. Todd whirled around to face him, his scowl deeper than before as he pulled out his gun from his jacket. KX took an unneeded, shuddery breath as he turned off the safety on his gun.

"Put the fucking gun down, Todd!" Hank demanded. Todd was not prepared to listen, aiming the gun at Hank, about to pull the trigger.

Before anyone could react, KX had dived in front of Hank just as the gun went off. He could feel the bullet lodge itself in his shoulder, staining a section of his shirt a purple-tinted blue as the bullet caused him discomfort that felt oddly like pain. It wasn't strong pain. It was barely there, in the back of his mind. He wasn't aware of it, well, not yet.

He tackled Todd to the floor, attempting to restrain him. But before he could, he watched as Todd brought the gun up to the bottom of his own jaw and pulled the trigger.

Right before his eyes.
