I couldn't believe my eyes.
That same little orange creature, that almost ran me over was a Victini. A Victini.
But it didn't rest for long, as it was being followed by familiar faces in matching orange uniforms - Team Flare grunts.
"Over there!" One of them shouted and pointed at the little Victory Pokémon.
The other grunt nodded and they took off running. The Victini turned its head towards the two grunts, then gave me a pleading look and flew away.
I stood there for a second, trying to understand what had exactly happened, but without further thinking, I knew what I had to do.
"Come on guys, let's go!" I exclaimed and rushed after Team Flare and the Victini.
I heard my friends yelling 'Wait!', but I didn't listen. That Pokémon was in trouble and needed help.
I chased the grunts between some buildings and roads, avoiding lamp posts and flower pots. I tried not to take my eyes off of the grunts, but it was hard, considering I was parkouring through the city. Soon I could see the city ending and the nature coming closer.
I ran and ran until I reached Route 14 and its forest. I stopped to catch my breath, but seeing the orange uniforms disappearing into the woods, I immediately continued the chase.
The forest was dark, darker than I had expected. I jumped over small bushes and stumps, sometimes tripping over them, but I always got up. I tried to avoid crashing into trees, and losing sight of my prey, but without me even noticing it, I had failed doing that.
Losing the grunts, that is, and Victini with them.
I cursed under my breath and turned around to say something to my friends, who I hoped had followed me, but they hadn't. Now I was kinda scared. You know, alone, in the woods, dark…all that kind of stuff.
"Ok, Rochelle." I mumbled. "Calm down."
I released my Litwick, so it could be a candle to me and show some light. I took out my phone to look at the time. It was 3:00 PM. Not that late, but still, it was unusually dark.
I decided to find a way out of this forest, since there was no use of running after the already gone Team Flare. I turned to the way I thought I had entered the woods and started walking, with Litwick guiding me.
After a good hour of walking, everything around me was still endless darkness and a lot of trees. Even with Litwick I wasn't able see far. Now I had tried every direction, but no luck anywhere. I felt myself panting and harder to move. Suddenly, I felt that my legs couldn't carry me anymore and I fell down. Litwick ran to me and gave me an 'Are you alright?' look. I nodded and pushed myself into a sitting position. I took my phone out again and checked the time. 5:00 PM.
If this keeps up, I'll be stuck in this forest forever. But I was too tired to keep on walking and I curled up in a ball, hoping to find some sleep and a way out tomorrow.
Litwick snuggled up next to me, also closing her eyes. I felt the Candle Pokémon snoring and I was about to fall asleep, too, when I heard a cry. I raised my head, there it was again. I listened closer - no doubt it was Victini.
I stood up, leaning against a tree and figured out the somewhat accurate direction of the cry. I picked up Litwick and set her on my shoulder. After that I gathered all of my strength and took off running once more. This time it was not that easy, but I didn't care.
The more I ran, the louder the cries went. I constantly tripped over stumps and roots, falling down and ruining my clothes, but at this point, I didn't care what happened to me. I was losing my sight and suddenly, I bumped into a tree. I rubbed my head, which was hurting crazy and squint my eyes.
