Her long, blonde, hair hung over the back of the chair; her head in her hands as she grumbled in frustration. She looked back at the text book in front of her, scowling at it.Her attention was drawn away by the front door opening, glancing up to see her roommate and best friend.
"Hey Steve's, what chya doing?" Robin, her hair dark and fluffed around her face. She dawned a white t-shirt and faded out shorts, a wide grin on her face as she set a six pack of beer down on the small kitchen counter.
"Studying." Stevie sighed, flipping the book shut. She slouched back in her chair; glaring at the text book.
Robin frowned, setting her purse down. She perched herself on the table in front of Stevie, reaching for the large book. "Why the hell are you studying?" She flipped through the book. "It's winter break."
"Because..." Stevie drawled out, snatching the book back from Robin. "If I don't keep my grades up then I loose my scholarship. If I loose my scholarship I'm going to end up working at Randy's for the rest of my life. I don't want to work at Randy's for the rest of my life."
The mere thought of having to go into the slum diner she worked at tomorrow for her shift was enough to make her sick.
Robin shrugged, tugging a beer loose from it's plastic holder and cracking it open. She took a sip, handing Stevie the beer and hoping down from the desk. "Well study later, we're going to a show tonight."
Stevie rolled her eyes, swiveling her chair around to face Robin; who was now in the kitchen pulling out various liquors.
"What show?"
"California Panic."
Stevie snorted, laughing. "California Panic? What kind of name is that?"
Robin threw her hands up dumbfound. "I dunno. But they're really good, and you're going."
Stevie arched an eyebrow, crossing her arms. "Says who?"
"Says me." Robin reached for a bottle of Tequila, twisting the cap off. She grabbed two shot glasses from the cupboard, filling them to the brim. She raised a glass towards Stevie.
Stevie pursed her lips, starring back at Robin. "I don't want to go."
"Oh yes you do." Robin nodded excitedly, a grin on her face. "This band is really good and the lead guitarist is crazy hot."
"So?"
Robin sighed, setting the shot down. She grabbed Stevie by the shoulders. "Stevie live a little! You never get out and do anything fun. We're in college, we're supposed to explore new things! Have fun!"
Stevie sighed, rolling her eyes. "If I go will you shut up?"
Robin squealed, pulling Stevie in to a hug. She pulled away, handing over the shot. Stevie glanced at it, clinking glasses with her roommate before tossing the tequila back. She felt the burn in her throat, shivering.
She felt herself being shoved towards her bedroom, looking over her shoulder at Robin bewildered. "What are you doing?"
"You have to get ready!" Robin shoved her towards the door, grinning wildly. "Go get hot!"
Stevie rolled her eyes. She already regretted this.
.............
The bass from the speakers was thudding all throughout the crowded bar, vibrating across the floor. The building was hot, crowds of people smushed together as they danced amongst one another. Stevie and Robin elbowed their ways to the bar, shouting out their orders to the bartender.
Stevie pushed herself as close the bar as possible, feeling people bumping in to her left and right.
"How is this possibly fun?!" She shouted over the noise. They grabbed their drinks, the sound of a drum suddenly filling the room.
Robin grinned excitedly, grabbing Stevie's hand. "Come on! They're starting!" She dragged Stevie through the crowd, right up to in front of the stage.
Stevie sighed, no personal space what's so ever at the moment. She should have stayed home and studied. Her thoughts were ripped away by a guitar riff sounding throughout the room.
She was entranced by the melody the second she heard it, her eyes shooting up to find the maker of it.All the air in her lungs evaporated, the music fading out in her ears, everything falling out of focus and becoming blurry. Except for him.
He wore worn out, faded jeans. His read shirt having a V-cut, exposing his chest hair. Dark, ebony, wild curls covered his head and he sported a beard.
Stevie didn't notice the people shoving in to her anymore, transfixed on the beautiful man up on stage. She felt unbearable warm, feeling her body twitch.
Am I having a heart attack?
Her heart stopped all together, forgetting how to breathe when his eyes clashed with hers. They lingered, a messed up chord clashing horribly with the song. The guitarists face turned bright red, tearing his eyes away.Stevie couldn't do the same, her eyes locked on him the entire show. Before she knew it the set was over, Robin dragging her back to the bar for a refill.
"Didn't you just love them!" Robin chimed out. Stevie was paying no attention, lost in a daydream. "Stevie? Earth to Stevie!" Robin waved a hand in front of her face.
Stevie snapped out of it, blinking at Robin. "What?"
"Excuse me?"
Both women turned their heads around, Stevie's heart stopping. Her palms grew sweaty and a lump grew in her throat as she came face to face with the guitarist.
He smiled at her, holding out his hand. "I'm Lindsey."
Stevie just starred at him, Robin frowning. She elbowed her, Stevie jolting back to reality.
"Hi!" She took his hand. "I'm Stevie."
"Stevie? I like it."
Stevie bit down on her bottom lip. "Thanks." She realized she was still holding his hand, quickly dropping it. Robin starred in shock, her eyebrows raised as she watched the interaction before her.
Lindsey grinned at her, their eyes lingering. "Can I buy you a drink?"
"Sure..." She turned back towards the bar, feeling Robin tap her shoulder.
"I'm going to go mingle." Robin whispered in Stevie's ear.
Stevie shook her head furiously, her eyes wide. "Don't you dare leave me!"
"Bye!" Robin pried herself from Stevie's grip, disappearing from her view.
Stevie turned back towards Lindsey, forcing herself to look up at him. His blue eyes were starring right at her; feeling a lump grow in her throat. "Hi."
Lindsey laughed. "Hi. What are you drinking?"
"Your choice."
He nodded, rattling their drink order off to the bartender. She was awe struck, not able to tear her eyes away.
"You play really good." Stevie blurted out.
Lindsey grinned down at her. "Thanks."
"Except for that one note you fucked up."
A twinkle glimmered in his eyes as he laughed, shuffling just a tad closer to her. "I got distracted."
"By what?"
"You."
