"Where are we going?""A roller rink."
Stevie's face fell, stopping in her tracks. Lindsey noticed, a couple feet a head of her. He turned to look at her, an eyebrow raised.
"You're kidding right?" Stevie glared at him.
"Yes I'm kidding." He rolled his eyes, grabbing her hand. "Come on."
Stevie felt the warmth of his palm, her heart beating faster. Shaking it off she focused on the little shops they were passing by. All closed at night time but still holding an interest to her eye. They approached a restaurant, colorful Christmas lights strewn across the roof of the wooden building.
"It looks a little divey, but I swear on my guitar they have the best margaritas."
Stevie raised an eyebrow, pursing her lips. "Are you trying to get me drunk?"
Lindsey shrugged. "You're a lightweight, it won't take much."
Her mouth fell wide open, pulling her hand from hers. "I'm not!"
"Prove it." Lindsey challenged her, a smirk on his face as he starred.
Stevie shook her head, letting him lead her in to the restaurant. Mariachi music was playing loudly over the speakers, Casanova posters and more string lights were scattered amongst the wall.
Finding a table was a bit of a struggle, sitting down at a two-top in the corner. A waitress quickly came by, asking for their drinks.
Stevie looked over the menu, Lindsey ordering for them. "We'll have two Margaritas and two tequila shots."
"No, we will not." Stevie cut him off, starring at him in disbelief. "I'll skip on the shot, thanks."
Lindsey nodded, the waitress scribbling on her notepad. Before she could leave, Lindsey slipped her a 5$ bill, making sure Stevie wasn't looking when he held up two fingers.
The waitress chuckled and nodded her head in understanding before leaving them.
Stevie shifted awkwardly, feeling his intense stare from across the booth. She fiddled with her rings, finding the courage to look up at him. "Lindsey why am I here?"
"Because I asked you out."
"No." Stevie shook her head. "Why am I here here, on tour with you."
Lindsey shrugged, scratching the back of his head. "I don't know... It was an impulsive move, but I didn't want to see you go." He felt like he had been upper handed, firing back at her. "Why did you come?"
Stevie's cheeks burned, growing flustered. She focused her attention on a poster behind him, still fiddling with her fingers. "I don't know I-"
"Look at me." Lindsey cut her off.
"Excuse me?"
"Look at me when you're taking to me. Don't hide."
Stevie nodded, meeting his eyes. "In all honesty everything was going to shit. I failed my classes, I could barely pay rent. You saw the dump I was working in."
"So this is an escape route for you?"
Stevie furrowed her eyebrows together, shrugging. "I guess. If that's what you want to call it."
"This is my escape route." Lindsey confided to her. "Jumping from city to city, a different person, a different show each night. It's better than living in the real world."
