[ Chapter Twenty-Seven ]
RAYLYNN MANAGED to get a few hours of sleep when she returned to the compound after her day with Cami. She knew that she would needed them when she finally talked to Hayley and Klaus. Just before sunrise, Raylynn woke to get on with whatever her best friend planned to do. She there had to be something, and she was ready for the inevitable fight.
Raylynn dressed in her usual style of jeans and a t-shirt and made her way out of her bedroom. She moved passed Hayley's room, noticing that she was not there, and continued on toward Klaus's. She peered into the open doorway to see Klaus stood next to his bed. Elijah laid across the duvet, his clothes ripped and covered in blood. The hybrid stood above his brother with one hand on his forehead and the other on his chest.
"What are you doing?" Raylynn spoke when she stepped into the room.
Klaus jumped, startled by her sudden appearance. He turned toward the huntress, out of breath with beads of sweat between his brows and a stream of blood that fell from his nose. "I'm trying to enter Elijah's thoughts to wake him." He stated, gesturing to his brother. "Esther's locked me out."
Hayley chose that moment to make her presence known. She moved over to stand next to the huntress and observed the Original laid across the bed. "Is this rash a side-effect of the witchy acid-trip he's on?" She questioned, pointing toward the inflamed patch of skin on his neck.
Klaus frowned and moved over to examine the rash. "I haven't seen this since I was a child. Mikael would return home from battle more blindly temperamental than usual, and our mother would use the petals of a rare merlock orchid to put him to sleep. She would mend his mind with a spell, and then wake him with the roots of the same plant." He turned to the two women. "If she has access to it now, then maybe it also grows in the bayou. You two stay with the wolves and mind the fort."
Hayley rolled her eyes. "I'd rather rip your mother's head off."
Raylynn nodded. "Same here."
Klaus stared at them in a serious manner. "Stay clear of her. I mean it. She already got to you both once. What would happen if Elijah were to wake and find you a victim of her madness, Hayley?"
The Marshall woman seemed reluctant, but she nodded. "I won't go after her. I promise."
Klaus then shifted his gaze to the huntress. Raylynn met his piercing blue eyes and sighed. "I promise I will not go near your mother."
The hybrid looked toward her for a long moment, before he turned on his heel and exited the room. Raylynn stared after him, making sure he was out of earshot, and then set her attention back on Elijah.
