[ Chapter Ten ]

WHEN MORNING CAME, Raylynn received a call from Davina. The huntress had given the young witch her number just in case something went wrong on her way to Cami's or afterward. Despite not knowing the blonde woman long, or at all, Raylynn knew that Cami could help. And quite possibly, Davina could help with the woman's trouble with compulsion.

As soon as Raylynn ended the call, she leapt from her bed and began to get dressed. She pulled on a pair of skinny jeans, a white tank-top, and a pair of her combat boots. When she turned to grab her bow, she stopped at the sight of the large weapon. There would be no way she could sneak it out of the compound unseen. So she swiped her collapsible crossbow from her dresser and placed it in a bag, before she slung its strap over her shoulder and across her chest.

Raylynn moved over to the double doors that led to her balcony and threw them open. She closed the doors behind her and headed toward the metal railing that lined the raised area. She leaned over the cool surface and spotted a thick bush below her that lined the alleyway between the compound and the building beside it.

     Perfect, she thought.

Raylynn made sure that her bag was secured at her side, before she pushed herself up onto the railing. She turned slowly, careful not to fall to her death, and held onto the rail to lower her body down. The huntress tightened her grasp on the cool metal, shimmying toward the bottom of the balcony. She hung by her fingertips for a moment and lowered her gaze to find the large bush. Once she set her eyes on the green foliage, Raylynn took a deep breath and then released her hold.

The huntress fell through the air for only a moment, before she landed on the bush. Her body crushed the leaves and branches when she came into contact with them, forcing the woman to groan and pull the broken wood from her shirt.

Raylynn proceeded to push herself from the bush and straightened out her clothes. She then ran her hands through her curly hair, before she emerged out onto the busy New Orleans street. Around her the natives and tourists alike enjoyed the festival that overlook the city. Raylynn did not know what it stood for, but she read one of the waving banners that said Casket Girls.

As quickly and efficiently as she could, Raylynn made her way through the streets and toward Cami O'Connell's apartment. Davina had texted her the address and she was supposed to meet them as soon as possible.

She found the woman's home in the next twenty minutes with a to-go cup of soda in her hand from a local street vendor. Raylynn raised a hand to knock against the front door, before it had been ripped open by Josh.
