[ Chapter Eighteen ]

THAT NIGHT, RAYLYNN actually managed to sleep through the night and most of the morning without any interruptions. She did not have to wake to Elijah's antics, to rambunctious vampires, or even Klaus and Genevieve's loud sex escapades. She revealed in her sound sleep, that is, until she got a phone call from Hayley to come to the bayou.

Reluctant, but well rested, Raylynn rose from her bed and threw on a pair of jean shorts, a flowy red tank top, and her favorite pair of combat boots. She slipped her collapsible crossbow into her bag and adjusted the strap across her chest, before she exited her room for the day. She made her way down the to the courtyard and planned to ignore the Mikaelson brothers on her way out, but when she heard them talking, she just had to see if Klaus would hold up to his word.

Raylynn stepped over to the open doorway for the first floor study and stood in plain sight. Klaus and Elijah must have just finished their conversation, because when she made her appearance, they were already silent when they turned to her.

The huntress held up her hands in mock surrender and said, "Don't worry, I wasn't eavesdropping again."

Elijah raised a single brow. "Again?"

"Raylynn, here, was listening in on our conversation last night." Klaus answered for the woman.

Raylynn grinned at the noble Original's pointed gaze. "What? I'm tired of being left in the dark. So how else was I supposed to figure things out?" She questioned.

Elijah simply sighed. "You could have asked."

Raylynn crossed her arms over her chest. "Okay, then. What were you two just arguing about?"

"Elijah seems to have hidden our mother's grimoire, which I need to help the wolves." Klaus stated, gesturing to his brother, who stood next to him.

Raylynn nodded. "Alright. I'm not getting into that." She stepped back out of the room and turned to Elijah to ask, "You going to the bayou any time soon? I need a ride."

"I was just heading here now." The Original answered and moved to leave the study.

Raylynn spun on her heel and walked next to him to exit the courtyard. "Well, don't I have great timing?"

     _______

The two of them traveled in Elijah's car out to the bayou, fighting the New Orleans traffic in the process. When they arrived, Raylynn noticed the wolves go about their daily activities.

She could find Hayley, so she assumed that the pregnant woman would be in the cabin with Eve. They often practiced what would happen when Hayley went into labor, although she and Raylynn had been opposed to a home birth type situation. Hospitals were much safer.
