I open my eyes and take a deep breath. Taking in my surroundings, I find that I'm back in the Avengers tower. Every Avenger, Guardian, and Jami stand in front of me.
"Guys?" I ask. No answer. "Is everything okay?" I try to stand, but I'm strapped to the metal chair that I sit in. "What's this? What's going on?"
A dark figure emerges from the darkness behind them. And of course, it just has to be that wrinkly, evil Barney imposter. Also known as Thanos. He towers over them all.
"So we finally meet," he says in a deep voice. I glare at him and don't say anything. "It really is a shame, you know. I really liked these guys. But half the universe needs to die for it to be balanced."
"Can't you take the half that isn't good?" I suggest.
"What's your definition of good, my dear?" he asks.
"Uh, not bad. Duh," I reply.
"Feisty little one, aren't you?" he laughs. "You know that you can't save them, right?"
"Unfortunately," I sigh, dropping my head.
"And there's nothing anyone can do to stop me," he smiles.
"The Avengers will find a way," I smirk. "They always do."
"No one's stopping me now," he says.
He stands at the end of the line of Avengers. T'Challa being the first. Thanos begins to walk past each Avenger and Guardian. As he passes them, they turn to nothing but ashes, floating away.
"No!" I scream. "Stop! Please!" But he doesn't. He keeps going.
Bucky, Steve, Wanda, Vision, Natasha, Bruce, Thor, Peter Quill, Groot, Rocket, Gamora, Drax, Mantis...
I scream and beg him to stop. To take me instead. But he just ignores me and keeps walking. He stops in front of Tony. When I see Tony's face, I break down.
"I love you..." he whispers. Thanos crosses over and Tony turns into that stupid ash like everyone before him. Jami is next.
"Stop! Please! She's all I have! I can't live without her!" I cry.
"Maybe you can't, but I can," Thanos says stepping in front of her. I try to break out of the bonds, save them, but to no avail. Then she too turns to ash.
"{Y/N}?" Peter asks, stepping away from Thanos. "{Y/N}! Help! Please! I need you! Please!" Hot tears cover my face as I realize I can't do anything but watch him die.
"I can't," I whisper.
"But {Y/N}," he whimpers. "I don't want to go. Please... {Y/N}. Help--"
Thanos steps in front of him.
But he doesn't fade to ash. No, Thanos had to be a fucking asshole and keep his body here. Peter's body falls to the ground, the warmth of life stolen by the ever so cold embrace of death. The impact of his limp, lifeless body is synced with my screams. I hope for a different outcome everytime I blink, but it's always the same when my eyes open again. The bounds around my body disappear, allowing me to get up. I sprint over to his body, ignoring the pain from the tight metal cuffs that were around my ankles. I'm desperate to find a remaining flicker of life in his body, but I'm instead met with cold silence.
My friend was gone. Stolen from me. And now I'm desperate for revenge. I run at Thanos. I'm not quite sure what I'll do, but as long as he dies, it's a good idea.
"You killed them!" I shout. "I loved them! And you murdered every one of them! They were all I had!" He steps out of the way and I stumble a few extra feet. I turn and run at him again, but this time he doesn't move. Instead, he grabs my wrist and pulls my body above the ground.
"I needed to, for the benefit of the universe," he whispers. "Thank you, for being another benefit."
My hands and feet begin to tingle and when I look down, I too am fading to ash. Thanos drops me to the ground. And I fade away, leaving no trace of ever existing at all.
