Hey everyone! So, now that OOTS is over, I'll be focusing my attention on this book for awhile!(: Also, sorry that I haven't updated this in a few weeks. For some reason, I got really bad writers block for this book, and when I did write something down it was absolutely horrible. This chapter is mostly just filler anyways (sorry!), and I always find that especially hard to write. Anyways, here's chapter 9! Enjoy!

By the time Zach, Metapod, and I get back to Pokemon Square, my apprehension has only heightened. Whatever that thing was that we saw, it certainly left its mark on my mind. Its words echo around in my head constantly.

As our little pod enters the main part of Pokemon Square, Butterfree comes rushing up, Caterpie snuggled in her small arms.

"Metapod!" she exclaims breathlessly, "I'm so glad you're safe! That should teach you boys not to wander off alone!" she picks the small green Pokemon up gently, somehow managing to hold both him and Caterpie at the same time.

"Thank you so much!" she gushes, and Zach just shrugs modestly.

"It was the least we could do, since we're a Rescue Team."

The butterfly Pokemon's eyes light up. "You two are an official team now?"

Zach nods excitedly. "Yeah! It's great, isn't it, Rose?"

Hearing my name causes me to snap out of my reverie, where I had been thinking about the shadow creature's words. "What?"

Zach looks a little worried. "Being in a Rescue Team is fun, right?" he says slowly.

I nod my head vigorously. "Of course!" I chirp, knowing I sound entirely too perky. I can't let Zach know that I'm starting to regret this whole idea. When my time as a Pokemon expires, I'm just gonna drag him down along with me, and I don't want that.

But I can't just quit now. It's a lose lose situation.

Butterfree pays us our reward (which is more berries), and then Zach and I head home.

The Mankey have stopped on the construction of our base for the day. Most of the outline of the structure is complete, and all that's left to do is put on the finishing touches.

"Isn't it awesome?" my partner asks, referring to what will soon be our home.

I startle. "What?"

Zach looks at me. "Are you okay, Rose? You've been off ever since what happened at Thunderwave Cave."

I shake my head. "Of course I'm fine! I'm just tired. Rescue missions are tough work, you know?"

I'm not sure why I decided to lie to him. I just don't want my problems burdening his spirit.

He doesn't look entirely convinced, but accepts my reason.

"Alright, well, get some sleep, then." he tells me, circling around on the grass to make himself a comfortable bed.

I start to do the same, even though for some reason I'm craving to sleep in a tree. Must be a Treecko thing.

That night, it's a long time before I fall asleep.

The next morning, my head does feel a little clearer. The beast's words don't shadow my every thought. Maybe I really was just tired.

Beside me, Zach stirs.

"Feel better?" he asks as he sits up, stretching.

"Yeah." I smile, this time mostly telling the truth. While my fears still haunt the back of my mind, I can push them away for now.
