CHAPTER FIVE
My shoulder length, blonde wavy hair fell softly. Wisps of stray hair, tumbled into my eyes, and caught onto my lips. The dress clung onto anything it could find, and I wrapped my arms round myself in distress. My hips bulged out, and my face suddenly looked ten times chubbier. Stop it, Billie. Remember what mom told you: You’re curvy which means you’ll have a little extra too. Nothing to worry about.
I smiled at myself, and struck a couple of poses; reminding myself that there was nothing to worry about.
The sunset rays shone strongly through my window, creating marvelous light patterns on the walls. Sighing, I made my way over to the window and stared out of it; waiting for Roman. He was the only reason why I was going to this party. Plus, I needed to get out more. Staying up inside with my mom and dog, and only going out to meet three specific people has really not helped me when I’m out in public on my own. An example of that, is that very day I’d spoken my thoughts aloud which led me to talking to Roman. I do think, that if I get out a little bit better, that would help my unfortunate habit.
My eyes caught sight of a male figure, making his way down my path and onto my front porch. I smiled fondly at Roman, then made my way downstairs. Three taps on the door, echoed throughout the house and I opened it up. Roman smiled down at me, and then looked into the house. “Where’s your mom?” he asked and I pointed upstairs. A shadow suddenly appeared on the walls though, and my mom could be easily seen; jogging down the stairs to greet Roman.
“Roman,” she said airily and he smiled warmly at her.
“Hello, Mrs. White,” he said.
“Billie, remember what we talked about,” she reminded and I nodded.
“Yes mom, no reckless behavior,” I said and she smiled; obviously happy, that she’d managed to do her job as a parent.
“Okay then bye, honey! Don’t have too much fun!” Roman led me out and I locked the front door as we stood on the front porch.
“Cute blanket.” I looked over at the blue and green knitted blanket, which lay sprawled on the wooden bench.
“Thanks,” I said then added, “my mom and I made it ... In memory of my dad.” Roman led me off of the porch, and we started to make out way to the party.
Roman let out a soft breath, and said gently: “If you don’t mind me asking, Billie ... what happened to him?” I bit my lower lip, and kept my eyes on the sidewalk. Two dark shadows loomed over us, but they were gradually fading away. I didn’t particularly want to tell Roman, that my dad died in an accident. Especially not when we were about to go, to a party.
“Uh, Roman,” I began and sighed. We walked past his home, and I glanced at him before fixing my eyes back onto the sidewalk. “I’d rather not talk about my dad, since if I did ... I’d have to tell you everything else; and I’m not ready for that.” I looked over at Roman, and he was nodding; a smile of understanding on his lips. The rays of the sun shone on his face, as we carried on walking. It was as if the sun, had tattooed a pattern of multiple sun blades on his skin. Every time he ran a hand through his hair, the light moved with him. It was all quite a dazzling experience-
“Billie?” My head jerked up, to see Roman staring at me his eyes big. “We’re crossing the road now, and I don’t think you staring at my face would help you do that.” Frustrated at myself for letting that happen, I gnawed on the inside of my cheek. The road was absolutely dead, but Roman still checked for any coming vehicles.
Once we were on the other side, the music suddenly became clear in my ears. Roman slunk his arm round my shoulder, as we walked down Tom’s path and onto his front porch. I would say that it was butterflies that were swarming round in my stomach, but butterflies are nice things. Happy things, and you get those when you’re excited for something. A fat slap of regret hit me round the face, and I swallowed hard as the once called butterflies suddenly turned into a swarm of wasps. My jaw tightened, and I exhaled deeply; trying to calm my nerves. “You alright, Billie?” Roman asked, and I nodded. He squeezed my shoulder again, then pressed the doorbell. It didn’t answer on the first ring, but when Roman pressed it again the door swung open.
