CHAPTER TWO

The chill breeze bit at my bare skin, and I silently wished I hadn’t cursed the early afternoon heat. The sky had turned a pinkish, orangey blue and the sun was saying its last goodbyes. Venus glowed brightly against the colors, and the moon appeared, and reappeared behind the wispy clouds in the sky. “I’m going upstairs, mom,” I said then got up, and out of my chair.

Billie,” she cooed, and my eyed widened. I spun round, to see her bottom lip sticking out slightly. Hey blue eyes were big, and a smile hooked onto one corner of her lip. My face fell, as I sighed internally. She only talked to me like that and looked at me like that, when she wanted me to run an errand; and those errands, usually meant that I had to leave the house.

Yes,” I mimicked, and she flashed me a sweet smile.

“Do you mind going out, and getting me some biscuits?” she asked, and I shook my head; confused, and slightly irritated at her request.

“Mom, we had all day ... I don’t want to go out; and plus, why do you want biscuits? You need to watch your sugar levels, mom.” She rolled her eyes at my comment, and bit the inside of her cheeks.

“Billie please, you shouldn’t really question my demands now; should you?” I sighed heavily, and her smile reappeared on her lips. “My purse is in my room; treat yourself.” I pressed my lips into a forced smile, and retreated inside. She always did that to get her way. Put on the “you have to do what I say, because I’m your mother” act. I could never say no to it too, I was just too good I guess.

Climbing the stairs, I made my way up to my room. I crossed it, then searched through my closet for a cardigan. I pulled out the cream one, grabbed my bag, keys and phone then headed for my moms room. Her large bag sat in the middle of the untouched bed. I searched through all her stuff, and pulled out a pink floral purse. “I’m leaving now!” I called once I was downstairs, then slammed the front door.

A sudden cool breeze, swept past me and pulled at my dress. Hastily, I slapped the skirt down, and wrapped my arms round my chest to keep warm. A couple of teenagers which I recognized, were shrieking and yelping outside their front yard. I scowled, and rolled my eyes at them.

I hated teenagers, and I know that sounds stupid since I am one ... But when you think about it, we’re a really irritating bunch of people. High School wasn’t for me either. Some people get everything in High School. Friends, boyfriends, prizes, praise ... they lived, and breathed school. Others, it was college, they soaked up every ounce of it and called it their home. And others ... it was the real world. Reality was their paradise, and whilst others struggled they just rolled by like it was nothing.

I had a feeling that I was going to excel in college. Just because it would be full of people more like me.

Shrugging, I got to the end of my street and decided to pick up the pace. The noise which before was merely a couple of teens shrieking, distant honking of horns and birds singing goodnight; grew louder. I wasn’t exactly in the main town, but since there was going to be a large Bonfire at the park ... it would be loud. Parents came with their children in between them, and trying to swing from their parents arms. Groups of teens and young adults, made up most of the raucous; the small children’s screeches just added to the noise.

Distant music, echoed in my ears and I sighed heavily as I entered the small corner shop. My eyes flickered to the left, and I saw Roman talking to a slim redhead. She looked incredibly bored, and kept glancing outside through the window. He was probably hitting on her, or something.

I shook my head, and made my way to where all the candy was. I passed the magazines, and squatted in front of the vast range of biscuits. “It would’ve helped, if you’d told me what type of biscuits you wanted,” I murmured and sighed. I pulled out a plain pack of tea biscuits, then made my way back over to the candy.
