CHAPTER THIRTEEN

“I feel, that we could be lost,” Roman said. He gazed round, his eyes scanning the trees. Their large frilled our leaves and branches, dropped over to create a shaded arch. It tried hard to cover the sunlight, their green fingertips knitting together. But, just like a knitted sweater, there will always be gaps, and slivers of sunlight managed to peek through the cracks and gaps.

“Well, we’re not,” I said and stuck my hands deep, in the pockets of Roman’s jacket. We were walking steadily in the middle of the deserted road, on our way to the lake. The breeze was soft but still able to freeze up my spine, if hit at the right time.

“I think we are, we’ve been walking quite a while and we’re still not there.”

“There’s only one way, Roman,” I chuckled. “And plus, the last time we went, we were on your bike and you were driving at like, a million miles an hour.” I glanced over at Roman who was rolling his eyes.

“That’s a definite exaggeration, Billie White. I think we should’ve taken my bike.”

“Stop complaining about the walk, Roman. You probably need the damn exercise anyway.” I glanced at his stomach, which stuck out slightly from all the bacon he’d devoured. “I can see you’re putting on the pounds anyway,” I added cheekily and he scolded me hastily, as I chuckled at my own joke.

“That wasn’t very funny, Billie,” Roman snapped but when I looked at him, his eyes were shining with mirth. “I think it deserves a punishment.”

“You know, if we are lost, we won’t be able to get any service,” I said trying to change the subject.

“Stop trying to avoid the subject, Billie,” Roman said, then started to walk closer to me.

“Alright Pierce, what’s my punishment?” I said and Roman scowled.

“I haven’t thought of it yet,” he muttered and I let out, an abrupt laugh. I ran a hand through my hair, and looked up at Roman again. “I’ll suffocate you in praise.”

“That’s not a punishment, Roman,” I said rolling my eyes. Roman slunk an arm round my shoulder, and shrugged his own.

“It could be. I could tell you how awesome you are so much, you’d get incredibly frustrated. It’ll show off the modesty, and humbleness within you.”

“You’re not making any sense, Roman. I’m completely perplexed, on how you managed to graduate, with that amount of sense in your system.” Roman chuckled and squeezed my shoulder, as we carried on walking.

“I dazzled Principal Winslet, with my charms and good looks,” Roman said low, and quite sexily actually. “It was incredible knowing, all the things I could make her do for me.” He wiggled his eyebrows, and flashed a goofy smile and I rolled my eyes.

“Get your horny self, away, from me Roman,” I said and peeled his arm off of my shoulder.

“I can’t help it if you’re falling for me,” Roman sniggered, then stumbled  to the side as I pushed him away. I sucked in my cheeks, and tightened my jaw. I felt myself blush lightly, and I gave him a threatening scowl.

“I’m not falling, for you at all,” I said and swallowed what I said. I glanced over Roman who had an irresistible smolder, painted on his lips. I wanted to seriously believe what I’d just said, but it was hard to do so, when he was looking at me like that. Roman didn’t just look at me, but he gazed at me. He absorbed every inch of my physical appearance. His eyes climbed up my dress, and shone at the fact that I’d unbuttoned the denim jacket. They traced clambered all over my front, and didn’t have any intention at being subtle at looking at my book. Those dangerously dark eyes, absorbed my face like a sponge; and once he had done his thorough search of me ... He smiled.
