CHAPTER FOURTEEN
“Billie, can you please come downstairs?!” I fluffed up my hair, grabbed my satchel then ran downstairs into the kitchen. My mum was stuffing a rollable mat into my beach bag, and when she realized I was upstairs, she looked up quickly. Her eyes crinkled at the sides, and a smile spread on her pink matt lips. “You look lovely, honey.” I stared at her, and looked at the long black maxi dress I was wearing. My toes poked through underneath the hem, in it’s brown sandals and I clenched them up.
“Thanks, mom,” I smiled and she winked at me.
“Are you ready, to go to the park?” she asked and I nodded grinning. “Jessie,” she cooed, and Jessie came galloping into the kitchen. My mom calmed Jessie down, whilst I locked up the back door and grabbed the dog lead. I put the lead round Jessie’s neck, and we made our way to the front door. My mom came after a couple of minutes, her plain lemon colored dress billowing slightly. She adjusted the beach bag on her shoulder, then let us out of the house. I felt myself smile and my insides warm, as the sun hit my skin. It was a nice change, to the cool weather from yesterday.
Roman and I had spent a couple of hours at the lake, talking about absolutely nothing to be honest. We talked about television and movies, and how more children should be reading. I also pressured him into watching an episode of Gossip Girl, last night. I knew he’d enjoy it, since he liked drama and he’d phoned me late at night saying it was great.
I pulled out my phone and checked for any messages, whilst keeping hold of Jessie’s lead. I bit my lower lip, and tried to hide my smile from my mom as I saw that Roman had texted me.
Quickly, I glanced over to her to she was was looking ahead. Her shoulder lengthen hair blowing gently, in the warm summer breeze. I’m team slair. It said, and I rolled my eyes at him. I could hear his voice saying it in the most irritating yet cutest way, and I let out a light brief chuckle.
I quickly texted back, You can’t be on two teams. You have to pick one. Serena or Blair. I glanced at my bag which seemed to be hanging open, and dropped my phone inside. “Texting Roman, I see,” my mom blurted and I blushed hard.
“Mom, please don’t turn this into a joke.” I looked up at her, and she stared at me; she looked completely aghast, but her eyes were filled with sarcasm.
“Billie, I can honestly say I won’t tease you on this. I will leave Courtney to do all of that.” I rolled my eyes, and tightened my grip on the lead. Jessie whined but I ignored her pleads, and wouldn’t let her run off into the road.
“You’re okay, with Roman, aren’t you?” I asked quietly once we’d crossed the road.
“Billie, I think it’s nice that a boy cares about you that much. A lot of girls seem to just go out, and try to find the love which their father fail to give them.” She ran a hand through her hair, and smiled warmly at me. “Of course, your father couldn’t really help not being here,” she continued and swallowed hard. A flash of pain, flitted through and struck her eyes like lightening; but the recognizable happiness came and settled back in those blue iris’s. “But it’s still the same. But you, you seem to have your head on straight Billie.” My warm wrapped and arm round me, and squeezed me tight before letting go. “Waiting, and making sure that the boy that does come your way, treats you in the way that any father would want a boy to treat their daughter.” I shrugged, trying to hide my budding smile.
“Mom,” I mumbled, but she just shrugged her shoulders.
“It’s true, Billie. I used to be a little rascal. Running around with any boy I met, it was a nightmare,” she said and I rolled my eyes.
