CHAPTER TEN
My eyes scanned the contents of the park. Dogs walked their dogs, some on leads and some weren’t; all of them more sane, than Jessie anyway. Couples walked hands sewn together, which only reminded me of Roman and the fact that he’d given me his number, after the trip to the lake. The sun shone brightly, and I’d managed to bathe my face in its rays. A cool daring breeze snuck round, and manage to occasionally nip and send shivers down my spine. Chip packets, candy wrappers and soda cans flitted round in the wind. Making the job for the poor juveniles on duty, even more frustrating than it already was. “Wow, the last time I saw you this happy, was ... well, when you with me,” Courtney snickered. I rolled my eyes at her as she slurped up some of her banana milkshake. I stirred round my strawberry shake with the straw, and Courtney moved her head to the left, and sipped some of her chocolate milkshake. The two cups were clasped in her hands, and she grinned cheekily at me.
“I still don’t understand how you managed, to buy two milkshakes after downing two burgers.”
“I like food, okay,” she gurgled and swallowed the chocolatey froth. Courtney started to suck up her banana milkshake, and I said,
“You won’t like food, when your face is a giant grease bomb.” The banana milk sprayed all over the grass, and some milky droplets landed on Courtney’s bare thigh. I chuckled lightly, whilst Courtney held up her maniacal laughter for about five minutes. She placed the shakes down by her feet, and combed back her wild curls, to show a patch of angry hot headed zits.
“As you can see, I’ve already had the pleasure of realizing that myself; thanks for the concern, though.” I smiled shaking my head, and sipped at my shake. “What’s your deal with shakes anyway?” Courtney mumbled. She bent down, her curls falling too. She picked up the chocolate one, and slurped loudly. “Chocolate especially.”
I sighed, and took a long drink from my own milkshake, then sat back in the wooden bench. “Everybody thinks I hate chocolate,” I started, my voice sounding slightly slurred, for some reason. “I don’t, I just think eating loads, in one go is gross. It’s sickly.” I slurped at my milkshake and Courtney chuckled. She shook her head, and let her coffee curls bounce.
“Whatever, Billie,” she said, then flipped back her hair. “Every scoop of Nutella which enters my mouth, is you getting one big chocolatey loss.” I quirked my eyebrows at her, and rest my head on her shoulders.
“I honestly prefer Skittles,” I murmured and Courtney scoffed.
“Yes, and Roman knows this too?” I felt myself blush lightly, and she shoved my head off of her shoulder.
“Yeah, whatever,” I mumbled and Courtney snickered.
“Has he annihilated your virginity too?” She said slyly and I rolled my eyes.
“No, we swam in a lake ... Well we splashed at least, and then we sat by a tree,” I said and Courtney sighed shaking her head. She tugged at her denim shorts, then finished off her chocolate milkshake.
“And you couldn’t do that, with me?” she said, and sucked in her cheeks.
“I’m not wasting my breath, on our discussion about the lake, Courtney,” I muttered and sipped at my milkshake. It had warmed up in the sun, and I grimaced. “Do you want this?” I said, and thrusted the shake at Courtney. She eyes the puddle of milk in the cup, and shrugged.
“Sure,” she said then snatched it off of me. Cleverly, she poured my strawberry shake in her banana one, put the lid back on and slurped up her new creation. She slapped her lips together, and I rolled my eyes at her as she started to giggle. “Tell me more, about Roman,” she said and nudged me playfully. “You like him, right?”
