CHAPTER SIXTEEN

I smiled at myself in the mirror, and struck a couple of poses as my reflection winked back at me. My face shone, and I felt a bubbling feeling inside of me. Butterflies and honey, were fluttering and seeping through my ribcage. The sweetness of it all, filled up my insides and made everything glow, with its splendor.

I ran a hand through my hair, and it felt soft in between my fingers. My heart fluttered with delight, and I bit my lower lip as I heard several loud knocks, at the front door. “Billie! Roman’s here!” I heard my mom yell from downstairs.

Quickly I checked myself, grabbed my black bag and black leather jacket, then rushed downstairs in a pair of black heels. My mom stood at the foot of the stairs, a smile spread on her lips. Although, that smile seemed to fade once her gaze lowered down to my legs. “A bit short?” she said and I blushed lightly.

“I didn’t mean for it to be,” I insisted and she shook her head.

“That’s why you shouldn’t go shopping with boys, Billie. They’ll tell you what they like, but not what’s right.” I rolled my eyes at her, as she planted a loving kiss on my forehead. “Be good, alright?”

“Yeah, I’ll be good,” I smiled and she let me go. Quickly, I made my way out of the house, and slammed the front door behind me. Roman was standing on the porch, with his hands deep in his jeans pocket. He looked up at me, and rose one eyebrow as he eyed my jacket.

“Leather?”

“It was the only black jacket, that I had,” I said and he shrugged smirking.

“You look really nice,” he said and I smiled up at him. Roman straightened out his plain white T Shirt, then stuck his hands in his denim jacket. The evening had already set in, and the moon was hinting to the sun, that it was his time to shine. Light up the sky with is milky light, and soak up the approval of the gawking stairs. The sky was a pallet of mixed colors: orange, pink, a dash of blue and a stroke of yellow. I could tell that the colors were fading though. The deep water blue, was settling in. Washing the colors away and taking its place with the richness of its midnight color.

“You don’t look too bad yourself,” I said smiling and he rolled his eyes at me.

Roman and I walked off of the porch, down my path and along the sidewalk. Our arms kept bumping fondly against each other, as we walked to the party in utter silence. Roman kept on glancing over at me though, and I felt the need to break this silence which was slowly becoming uncomfortable. “Are you planning on drinking?” I blurted and Roman snorted.

“Yes, but not so much that I get drunk. You should drink, but not to the point drunkenness, Billie. That really, isn’t cool.” I smiled at what he said, and couldn’t help feeling happy, that he thought about drinking that way.

“What would you do, if you found me, drunk?” I questioned, and a smirk spread on his pink lips.

“I’d take you home,” he said simply, then added quietly. “Take me drunk, I’m home.”

I chuckled lightly, then continued speaking. “I’ll try not to get drunk, don’t worry.” Roman then quickly eyed me up and down, and sighed a sigh, which was meant to be subtle but turned out obvious.

“You’ll definitely be getting a lot of male attention, in that dress,” he said and bit his lower lip. “That won’t be good.”

“Why?” I said, then furrowed my eyebrows. I wanted to get something out of him, anything so I pressed on. “You chose the dress for me, you said it looked nice.”
