"... it's not her fault Haru."

"Yui...that girl is troublesome."

"... don't say that, you know that she's just a child. We the adults, are to blame."

"You would choose that brat over me? The one that you've been with for years?"

"Actually yes...yes I would!"

"You...how dare you? You'll regret ever saying that!"

"Haru wait, stop!"

*slam*

I couldn't watch anymore...so I ended up slamming the door and revealing my position.

I had to escape before anyone else got hurt. Anyone else as in, me.

I grabbed my precious Mr. Williams, my stuffed rabbit that I had received from granny, and ran as fast as I could into the dark alleys of the city streets.

"Hey little girl, why are you out here alone?" A young man with a disgusting-looking face asked me and wore a nasty smile.

"..."

"Not gonna answer? How about you come with me? I'll make sure that you won't get hurt with me. C'mon!" The man grabbed my arm roughly and dragged me along with him...or tried to.

I bit his arm hard and he let go of me. He screamed from the pain and turned around to give me a jarring glare.

"What the fuck was that for you wretch?!" He shouted in my face and clenched his fists.

"Mommy told me not to talk to strangers...and especially not your kind." I told him calmly with a straight face and kicked him in his "money maker".

He slumped to the ground in pain and cried out profanities that a child such as myself should have never heard.

I held onto Mr.Williams and ran...I just dashed, as fast as I possibly could.

Adults, children, and even animals stared at me. I couldn't afford to look behind me. I just sprinted as quickly as these short legs could.

After running for who knows how long, I stopped in front of a big house.

I walked hastily to the door of the house and kept ringing the bell persistently.

Please open the door...

"Hm?" An old lady stepped out and looked at me curiously.

"Mi-ne darling, is that really you? What are you doing out here so late at night?" She asked me with a puzzled but sleepy look, it seems as though I had woken her up.

"Granny, I can't go back home. Mommy and Daddy are fighting, and it's my fault." I said and looked into the kind woman's eyes.

Almost as if on instinct, she bent down to be at my level, grabbed me and pulled me into a comforting hug. She brushed my hair with her fingers and held me close to her.

"My beautiful Mi-ne, it's okay. Everything will be okay. I will take care of you here and you won't have to worry about a single thing anymore. I will cook you and Mr. Williams some spaghetti everyday, you can also eat as many muffins as you want. You'll have no limitations here my dear." She spoke softly with nothing but compassion in her voice. She pulled me up from the porch and carried me inside the house.

I sat down on the couch and ate some of the cookies that were on a nearby table. I turned on the TV and started watching some random cartoon.

I put the volume up high, but immediately lowered it once I heard granny yelling at something...or someone.

"Yui, keep that man away from her. The poor child is scared out of her witts."

"Yes, I will take care of her. I will only let her go back once the situation there has been cleared up."

"Don't worry, I won't ever let him in here as long as I am alive. Good night dear and take care of yourself."

I put the volume back up again and stared at the TV. In the cartoon a young girl was being carried by both of her parents, one holding each of her arms, across a sidewalk.

That was me, 15 hours ago...and it could've always been me if I didn't-

"Mi-ne dear, are you okay?" Granny made me snap out of my thoughts with her question, she gave me a worried look.

"I'm...I'll be okay granny. I will stay here with you forever okay? We will always be together, right? You, Mr.Williams and I." I asked granny, my eyes filled with tears and desperation.

"Of course my dear, forever." She said and smiled brightly at me.

But even the child me knew that what she said was a lie.

"The poor child."

"She's only 16."

"Will she have to live alone now?"

"I pity her, her whole family is broken. At least we have better luck than her eh? Hahahaha."

Idiots... disgusting people, all of them.

I stood in front of my dear grandmother's casket while donning a plain black dress.

I emotionlessly stared at the green bow in my hand. She wore it on that day...the day that I ran for my life.

I slowly took the bow and clipped it onto the back of my head into my light brown hair.

"What is she doing now?"

"What a rebellious child, perhaps she deserved what she got."

"Green at a funeral? That is extremely disrespectful of her. Goodness, her grandmother just passed away! How could she?"

Green represents hope, granny would've never wanted me to give up and so I won't.

These idiots may find my actions disrespectful, but they're only here to look good in front of each other's eyes for attending a funeral.

I shall carry granny's hope and mine together with this bow. That way for sure, I will succeed.
