"Stop!" I yelled, throwing myself at Demeille. I grabbed him, digging my nails into his shoulders before I yanked him off of Nathan. By then, most of the students still in the courtyard had their eyes glued to us, watching in anticipation. But no one helped us; I assumed it was because everyone was afraid of Demeille and what he might do to them if they got in his way.
The first bell of the school day rang, prompting most of the audience we gained to head into the building to prepare for class. A few nymphs and elves stood at the other end of the courtyard, watching in fear, before they ran inside after everyone else.
I rushed to Nathans side. "Are you okay?" I asked, checking for any visible injuries.
He nodded, then coughed. "Just...shocked...I guess. I def...initely got...the wind...knocked out of me."
I gently lifted his head, helping him sit up. When I pulled my hand away, there was a little bit of blood on my fingers, and it was then I noticed that Nathans head had hit a rock on the ground when Demeille knocked him over. I felt every ounce of my being hunger for the blood even more with every breath I took. There was a slight burning sensation beginning in my throat, but it wasn't as bad as before. I don't want to hurt Nathan, I recited in my head. I closed my eyes tightly and slowed my breathing, until I was able to stop breathing completely in order to prevent myself from smelling the blood, and then I wiped my hand clean on the grass next to me.
"I have to admit, I underestimated you, Ramona," Demeille laughed as he took a step closer to us. I immediately got to my feet and turned around to face him, at the very same moment that I heard a voice a short distance away urgently call out:
"Demeille! I'll have a word with you in my office, now!" It was Hamiel. Demeille cursed under his breath before he turned and started jogging towards him. Ms. Thorn was with him, and she was speed walking as fast as she could towards me and Nathan, who still sat on the ground.
"Hey guys, are you okay?" she asked frantically.
I nodded. "Yeah, Nathan just has a cut or something on the back of his head, he might have a concussion. Can you help him?"
She kneeled down to be face-to-face with him. "Yes, I'll see what I can do. My powers are centered on healing and growing plants, but humans can't be too different, right?" she laughed in an attempt to take some of the edge off the situation. It was hard for me to tell whether she noticed I was a blackeye, as we hadn't quite made eye contact yet.
"Nathan, hey, can you talk to me?" Ms. Thorn prompted, gesturing for him to look her in the eye.
"I'm fine, Ms. Thorn, really. Just a little shaken up, is all," he attempted to assure her as he felt the back of his head. When he brought his hand back in front of his face and saw the blood on his fingers, his eyes widened and he looked a little nauseous.
"Yes, completely fine," Ms. Thorn stated sarcastically. "Here, let me see that." She gently turned his head so that she could find where his injury was, then placed her hand over it, closing her eyes and concentrating. After a minute or so, she opened them and looked at Nathan. "Feel any better?"
He grinned. "Yeah, actually." He jumped up to his feet and stretched. "I actually feel better than before!"
Ms. Thorn beamed. "Really? Awesome! It's nice to know that my healing abilities aren't just good for plants," she laughed.
"Thank you, Ms. Thorn," Nathan said, standing up on his feet and smiling at her.
She waved it off. "Hey, maybe Hamiel will promote me to school nurse now," she joked. She looked at me then, and an expression of realization flashed across her face. "Wait, Ramona...you're a...blackeye now? I can't believe I didn't notice before...wow." I could tell she was shocked, and rightfully so. But I didn't want her to think it was something that happened intentionally.
"I was actually meaning to speak to you, and Hamiel, about it, when you have a moment," I told her, wringing my hands together nervously. "It's important."
"Well, I bet Hamiel is still speaking with Demeille, but I'm free right now. I just...I don't know, I don't think it's right for you to be missing class."
"Please," I begged. "Really, I think something needs to be done."
She sighed. "Well, alright. But Nathan, you should get to class."
"Alright." He looked at me before he walked away. "Talk later?" I nodded and gave him a small smile in response. When he had left, Ms. Thorn gestured for me to sit on the bench, and then she sat next to me.
"What did you want to talk about?" She asked, her brows furrowed in concern. I then explained what had happened with Adrien and Demeille just a couple days before; how I became a blackeye. "Oh...my," she breathed. "I will speak with Hamiel and see if there is anything we can do to prevent further incidences. This has gone on long enough. The fact that they did something like that to you proves that they also pose a threat to other students. We can't let anything else happen." She stood up from the bench and waved for me to follow her back into the school.
We headed straight for Hamiel's office once we got into the building. Sure enough, Demeille was still there, getting his ears yelled off by our angry principal. When he noticed us, he regained his composure but was still red in the face from yelling. "Yes, what is it?"
Ms. Thorn rushed over to him and whispered in his ear what I told her out in the courtyard. I don't know why she bothered whispering; both Demeille and I could hear everything she said. This, of course, caused Demeille to glare at me from across the room, his rage clear on his face.
"I already know the answer, but I am obliged to ask," Hamiel stated. "But is that true, Demeille? What you and your friend did to Ramona?"
Demeille was silent, still glaring at me. Hamiel took this as his answer and whispered urgently to Ms. Thorn to call Adrien to the office. When he got there a few minutes later, Hamiel gestured for him to sit next to Demeille.
"Boys, I believe you've caused enough damage to last a lifetime," he looked pointedly at them each in turn, "and this fact alone leads both Ms. Thorn and I to believe that you are a danger to the whole of the student body. We can't let you cause any more mayhem."
"Okay, and?" Adrien scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Tell us something we haven't heard before."
Hamiel raised an eyebrow. "How's this: you're both expelled."
