"Demeille?" I breathed in disbelief. "Your...father is...the leader of the Fantom Fangs?" I was shocked, of course, but I couldn't say it didn't make sense.
"Surprise, surprise," he remarked sarcastically.
"Why...why did you bring me here?" I groaned, attempting to yank my hands free from their restraints.
"Ah, ah, trying to escape is futile," Anton waved his finger. "You're surrounded, so even if you somehow did get out of those chains, you wouldn't get far. And as for why we brought you here, my son tells me you've been quite the disrupter of plans lately."
"I've been protecting my friend," I declared, straightening my back. "Your son's been the one getting in the way."
"I beg to differ!" Demeille scoffed. "You know, Ramona, I thought you would've been more appreciative of what Adrien and I did for you."
"You've done nothing for me but continue to ruin my life," I spat. My fear was gradually being replaced with annoyance.
Anton held his hands up. "Now, now, this is getting us nowhere. Demeille, where is Adrien?"
"Here boss," Adrien announced as he seemingly materialized from nowhere.
A sinister grin spread across Anton's face once more as he rubbed his hands together in anticipation. "Perfect. Now, if what you tell me about her is true, she'll make a wonderful asset to our team."
"Oh, it is, and it gets better." Adrien turned to me. "Tell him. Tell him what you are."
"Why is that important?" I asked, growing more irritated with each passing moment.
"Well, it's important because they might have mentioned that you're a hybrid, but no matter how much I asked, they would not tell me a what you're a hybrid of. Now, please tell me, I must know."
I stared at him in disgust, saying nothing. Adrien huffed, rushing over to me and roughly grabbing my chin. "He asked you a question, now you answer it," he whispered through gritted teeth, reluctantly releasing his tight hold.
I glared straight into Adrien's eyes. "I don't owe any of you anything. I'm not saying a word."
Demeille pushed Adrien out of the way, kneeling down to my eye level. "You answer my father's question, or Nathan will pay the price. You understand?"
I brought my brows together in frustration. "Don't bring him in to this."
Demeille grabbed a fistful of my hair. "Do you understand?" He shouted. I nodded frivolously, causing him to reluctantly release his hold on my hair. I dragged my gaze to Anton, who regarded the scene with a smug smirk and a glint in his eye, as if to say, I taught my son well.
"I'm a vampire-angel hybrid, okay? I still don't see why it matters so much," I huffed. Anton's eyes widened, before he clapped his son on the back in approval.
"Well done, you two, well done. You've truly found a diamond in the rough," Anton exclaimed. "If we are to carry on with the procedure, you know who you need to call." He looked pointedly at his son and Adrien in turn.
"Dad, he said he didn't want to do it. He's not coming," Demeille replied in a regretful tone.
Anton slammed his hand against the nearest wall. "I don't care if he wants to or not! He needs to. Call him at once! If he's not here in five minutes, remind him of the consequences of disobeying me!" He yelled menacingly, his voice echoing throughout the room we were in.
Demeille nodded, pulling out his phone with lightening speed and dialing the number of this mysterious he. "Yeah, Dario, it's me. You need to get here ASAP. Direct order from my dad." A pause. "Yeah, he's not happy. Seriously man, we need you." Another pause. "Listen, man, if you don't get here in, like, five minutes, there will be consequences. Alright, see you then." He put his phone in his back pocket and faced his father. "He's coming, don't worry."
I inhaled sharply. "Dario...is part of this too? And what procedure are you guys talking about?" I received no answers, which didn't surprise me. Instead, everyone stood around me in electric silence, simply observing my every muscle twitch. I felt increasingly uneasy with every passing moment, unsure of what to expect next.
Sure enough, Dario appeared out of the darkness a short five minutes later. When he saw my face, though, he gasped. "Ramona?" He turned to Demeille. "You didn't tell me it was Ramona. I can't do this." He pivoted on his heel, preparing to leave, but Anton stepped in his path at the speed of light.
"You don't want to do that, my friend. Just think of what would happen to your family. One flick of a finger and poof! And it would be all your fault. How would that make you feel, hm?" It wasn't until then that I noticed we weren't alone in this building; the shadows were brimming with what must have been other Fantom Fangs members, at the ready to pounce at Anton's command.
The faintest signs of tears glinted in Dario's eyes as he grit his teeth. "Fine. I'll do it."
Anton clapped in delight, a sudden, loud sound that reverberated off the walls and hurt my ears. "Alright! Let's get started then, shall we?"
Dario exhaled sharply as he walked over and stood right in front of me, kneeling down to look me in the eye. "I'm really sorry about this, I am. Please forgive me."
I began to panic. "Forgive you for what? What are you doing? You don't have to do this, you know," I reasoned. He placed each of his hands on either side of my head and sighed in dismay.
"Yes, I do, Ramona." He closed his eyes and seemed to be entering a deep focus, when a sudden bright light, accompanied by the roar of a motorcycle, tore through the crowd of gang members and stopped right in front of Anton. By that point, my vision had gone blurry. I began to feel sleepy, but I could just make out a silhouette of a person snapping their fingers before one by one, Dario, Anton, Adrien, and Demeille, followed by the rest of their fellow gang members, fell to the ground, motionless.
The mystery person swung their leg over their motorcycle and jogged towards me. I felt them tug at the chains that bound my hands together, before they fell off with a satisfying clang. The last thing I remembered was being carried out of the chair by this person, before I gave in and saw nothing but the comforting, familiar nothingness.
