Ramona's P.O.V.
"Nathan, what are you doing here?" I asked breathlessly. "I told you not to come here. How did you even find this place?"
Anton, Nocturne, Demeille, and Anna pivoted sharply on their heels, sneering when they saw Nathan and the man that stood behind him. I noticed that man was an angel. It was his bright, glowing eyes and the faint golden hue emanating from his skin that gave it away. When my eyes met Nathan's, I gasped.
"You...your eyes...are glowing," I breathed, barely loud enough for myself to hear. "You're...an angel?"
"Ramona, this," Nathan gestured to the mysterious man that now stood beside him. "This is my father," he informed me, a proud grin on his face. "An angel. So yes, I am, partly."
My father had slowly opened his eyes, finally able to speak. "Aren?" He questioned with a scratchy voice, narrowing his eyes.
"You know each other?" I asked, not masking my surprise.
Dad opened his mouth to respond, but was cut off by his sister. "Yes, it's not that big of a deal. Almost all angels in Thesia know each other," she scoffed, turning to Anton. "So, are we gonna do this, or what? I brought the blood bags for Nocturne as promised, now you need to follow through with your part of the deal."
"First, we should tie them up," Anton marveled, scratching his chin, as if it were some minor inconvenience that Nathan and his father were able to walk around freely.
Anna rolled her eyes. "Like they have any advantage over us," she laughed. "Especially now that Nocturne has been able to drink his fill, isn't that right?" She cooed, laying her head against his chest. "Now he can use his ability to its full capacity."
Since I had been untied, I finally decided to stand up. "What's...his ability?" I asked, rubbing my sore wrists. I wasn't so sure I wanted to know the answer.
"Why don't you show her? You can use Mama Marlo as an example," Anna insisted, pointing at my mother with a sly smile. My mom, at this point, had just barely opened her eyes, when Nocturne held out his hand towards her and began focusing.
Panicking, I tried to step in his way, but my feet felt as though they had been cemented to the floor. My breathing quickened as I became more frantic for my mom's safety. The memories of that day Adrien had used his ability on me flooded back to my mind, causing me to glance to and fro, wondering where in the world he was in this moment.
"What's wrong, Ramona? Are you stuck?" His mocking tone echoed in my ears as he emerged from the shadows across the room. He laughed maniacally at my expense as he watched me struggle to lift my feet from the floor.
My attention quickly snapped from Adrien to Nocturne as Nocturne made a fist with his hand and raised it in the air. I stared in horror as my mom simultaneously began levitating off the ground, gasping for air as she clawed at her throat.
Nocturne was choking her, with his mind, from what had to have been at least eight feet away. I felt powerless and weak; as all I could do was watch in terror.
As Nocturne kept raising his fist, while Anna watched with satisfaction as my mother came closer and closer to unconsciousness, a bright light slowly began filling the room. After only a few moments, it became almost blinding. I glanced around, trying to find its source.
And then I saw Nathan. His eyes were closed; he seemed deep in focus as he held both palms out, allowing his energy to pulsate from them into the atmosphere around us. It was like nothing I had ever seen before.
Blinded, Nocturne lost his focus and brought both hands to his face to cover his eyes. Adrien also had to cover his eyes a few moments later, freeing me from the invisible glue that had kept me in place. As soon as I was able to, I rushed over to my mom and helped her to her feet, wrapping one of her arms around my shoulders for support. My father stumbled to his feet, clumsily trudging over to us and positioning himself on the other side of Mom. He laid her other arm around his shoulders, then began leading us towards Nathan and his dad before the others could regain their senses.
Aren laid a hand on his son's shoulder, helping him to break out of the trance he seemed to be in. Nathan blinked a few times, slowly bringing his hands to his face and staring at them in disbelief. His thoughts were clear on his face: How did I do that? What even was that?
"Come on, Nathan, we have to go," Aren demanded, grabbing his arm and pulling him along with us as we all filed through the rusty iron door, escaping an unknown yet menacing fate.
Once my parents, Nathan, Aren, and I were safely out of that old, run-down apartment building, I fell to the sidewalk with relief. Tears stung my eyes as I held my sides tightly and rocked myself back and forth, right there on my knees. I felt hands rub my back comfortingly, but I couldn't tell whose hands they were.
I slowly lifted my head so that I could see their faces; the faces of my family. I wanted to thank Nathan for not listening to me, and coming to our rescue.
Just as my eyes met his, I noticed movement a little ways behind him. No one else seemed to notice; my parents were hugging each other tightly and Aren was gazing lovingly down at his son. But whatever was moving so quickly towards us had caught my attention, and I stood quickly to my feet.
"What? What is it?" Nathan asked, more curious than scared.
The movement I had seen turned out to be Demitri emerging from the apartment building.
"What are you doing here?" I questioned. "And how long have you been here? We could have really used your help like five minutes ago," I joked. My smile faltered when he didn't even so much as lift a corner of his mouth to acknowledge what I had said. He just stared down at his feet, wringing his hands together.
When the others noticed me talking to him, they offered him greetings. But none of which were paid any attention.
"I'm sorry to all of you, I really am. I just want you to know that," he said finally, breaking his silence. "But this is something I have to do." He then lifted his gaze, looking at each of us in turn with cold, black eyes.
"What do you me-" I was cut off by Demitri snapping his fingers, causing me to fall to the ground, motionless. Just before my eyes closed completely, I could see Nathan, his father, and my parents all falling to the ground beside me.
My last thought before I gave in to the darkness was: Why have you, too, betrayed us?
