Time seemed to be moving in slow motion. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. And I couldn't believe that I wasn't able to do anything about it. My eyes trailed all over what had become a battlefield, snarls and cries of war filling my ears.
My eyes met Acheron's as he threw yet another blackeye to the ground. His eyes bore into mine as he gave me the slightest nod, silently communicating what I had to do. I understood immediately, reaching into my pocket and wrapping my fingers around the cold, hard jewel of the Sun Necklace. I pulled it out as discreetly as I could manage, so as not to draw any unwarranted attention to myself.
It wasn't called the Sun Necklace just because it had the power to protect a vampire from the sun. Rather, it received its name mainly from the fact that it held the very power of the sun itself. This, of course, would be detrimental to creatures for whom the sun's rays were fatal, if its powers were deployed correctly.
As the hoard of blackeyes became closer and closer, I brought the necklace into view, holding it up for them all to see. I held on to it with all my might, willing it to do what it did best. I closed my eyes, focusing all of my energy into the jewel, allowing myself to become one with its power.
I felt a new energy course through my veins, a sensation I never imagined I would experience in my lifetime. The jewel began to glow, beams of light piercing the darkness around me. Lumielle had rushed to my side, using a smaller light wall to shield my family from what I was about to do. Acheron was beside us in an instant, and Lumielle extended the shield to protect him as well.
By this time, the jewel's light burned so brightly that I had to close my eyes, turning my head away from it. Adrien lost his focus, covering his eyes to shield them from being blinded. This enabled me to bring myself to my feet, standing up tall. Demitri had dropped Nathan to the ground so that he could better shield himself as well.
Feeling that it was now the right moment, I allowed the energy that had been building inside the jewel to be free. Light exploded from it so forcefully that the Fangs members that had gathered around us were blown backwards, toppling like dominoes as they fell on top of each other. To my surprise, I had stayed firmly in place. I hadn't even flinched.
The jewel continued to burst with energy, lighting up the night to such a degree that an onlooker might've thought it was midday. Then, I heard shouts. What they were saying, I didn't quite know. All my focus was on the Sun Necklace, and demolishing the vile Fantom Fangs once and for all.
As the light emitting from the jewel began to fade, the shouts I was hearing became clearer:
"Stop! Ramona, that's enough! We won, you can stop now!" It was Acheron.
I smiled blissfully, clinging to those words as I fell to the ground, unable to stand any longer.
We won.

My eyes were just barely opening, but I could tell I was no longer outside. I heard someone talking, right next to me, but I could only pick up bits and pieces.
"Can...ear me....amona?" It sounded like my mom, but I wasn't sure. "...umielle, she's...ake."
I felt someone appear next to me, and then lay their hand on my forehead. It felt...comforting. Immediately, I felt as though cool water was streaming through my body, eliminating my aches and pains. It took away the heaviness of my eyelids, allowing me to fully open my eyes.
"Lum...Lumielle?" I breathed, realizing she had just used her healing ability on me. I turned my head to my other side. "And...Mom? You're okay," I sighed, relieved. My chest tightened only seconds later. "Wait, what about...about Nathan? And...everyone else?"
