You ever just know when your heart is shriveling up in the heat when there's a body of water right next to it - but you just can't seem to make your way over there to get your shriveled up heart some hydration? It seems so easy to just hop on over to whatever lake there is next to you, but it's so much more harder than it looks.

That's what it's like sitting next to an obnoxiously, love-dovey couple. Even more so when that obnoxiously, love-dovey couple is none other than Alana and Jackson - one of them being someone I despise while the other is someone I'm trying to despise.

The whole time they had been feeding each other ice cream and purposely getting it on the other's lips so they could lick it off. I'm not salty but Jackson's fruit punch lips are way more desirable than some stupid Madagascar vanilla.

I nearly snapped my plastic spoon in half from the anger I was taking out on it. I didn't slow down to enjoy the ice cream - I was practically breaking my teeth by biting straight into the hard chunks of cookie dough. It's like I wanted to break a tooth or something so that I could get out of the situation I was in.

Faith was occupied with Ryan, and I'm not even mad about that. Seeing Faith light up whenever she saw the boy was currently filling the gaping hole in my heart that Jackson dug. If I can't be happy, I want Faith to be happy enough to satisfy the both of us.

Seymour, Wren and Dylan were engulfed in their own conversation on Briar and other girls like her. I know because as I mindlessly scrolled through my empty Chirper feed, I was actually eavesdropping on everyone's just as equally as mindless conversations.

Finally fed up with picking at the melted ice cream, I spoke up. "Do you guys wanna go to the park?"

"Yes!" Jackson grinned.

"No!" Alana hissed at the same time.

"Maybe?" Faith gawked at the contrasting couples. "I mean - yes. Let's go!" She twirled out of her seat, her fingers intertwined with Ryan's. I threw out my melted ice-cream and dashed out the shops doors.

The park was right next to the parlor. If you kept walking you'd be greeted by the seasonal carnival that came around four times a year for three consecutive days. It was starting to fall into fall, so they had opened up for the first day. I had no interest, that place held memories I tried my best to repress and Faith knew that.

"This is lame," Alana huffed while lounging on the rusted swing-set. The same swing-set had been there since I was six. My father would always bring me and my mom to the park and we'd run around, having a blast. I remembered those days like they were treasure. The days before I got along with Faith were the ones where my parents were my only friends.

Jackson pushed himself off the ground, bringing his feet back and unfolding them when he came to the front. A small smile slithered onto my lips as I discreetly watched him - he looked happy.

Even Dylan was enjoying himself. He looked like a giant among the see-saw with Wren. Seymour was doing tricks on the monkey bars that had drawn a crowd of little kids. They watched in awe.

"I love the swings," I grinned and got in the vacant spot where Alana used to sit. She rolled her eyes.

Dick.

I pushed myself off the ground with the leg strength I could muster up. In a few moments, I caught up with the height of Jackson. The wind whipped through my hair and swinging next to Jackson reminded me of the bittersweet roof-top talk we had. It was nearly the same. Being next to him and feeling as if I've been lifted off the ground - as if I was flying.

"I bet I could go higher," the blonde-boys voice rang through my ears. I narrowed my eyes at him.

"That sounds like a challenge."

"You said it, I didn't," he stuck out his tongue at me. I flicked him off but quickly brought my hands to grip the squeaking chains again.

I picked up the pace by aggressively repeating the pull and push action. He noticed my sudden jolt of speed and mirrored my leg movement.

"Watch this," I grinned and felt the little-kid in me come out. He watched as I flipped under the old seat and grasped onto the chains for the death of me. I let myself go front and back before jumping back - falling onto the woodchips.

"Jesus," he came rushing over to me. "You could've gotten hurt, dork." I took his hand into mine and felt my heart flutter at the action.

"Thanks," I muttered as he pulled me up back on my feet. "But I totally snagged the crown of the playground from you."

He rolled his eyes.

I totally did, though.

Alana came rushing over, panic written all over her face. "Jackson!" Should've guessed. "Are you okay? I saw what happened! Did she cause you to have a god damn heart attack?"

The blue-eyed boy simply grinned and pecked Alana on the lips. I cringed at the sight.

"Nah," he stated. I watched as the two exchanged loving glances. The ghost of Jackson's hand in mine taunted my lifeless fingers.

"Jackson, get over here! You gotta see this," Wren called out for the blond. He gave Alana a quick kiss on the lips before jogging over to the monkey bars with chipped red paint. I felt my heart tighten in my chest at the small exchange between the two. I needed to get used to it.

Alana read right through my happy facade. She crossed her arms over her chest and smirked, "guess whose wearing the varsity jacket now?" The brunette walked past me - bumping into my shoulder with force. I stumbled back and stifled my growl that trembled behind my lips.

I refuse to get jealous over a blonde-haired boy - that's not in my agenda. Besides, I still have the varsity jacket. Jackson never asked for it back.

Sierra one, Alana zero.
