*Six Days Later*

I woke up in a cold sweat. Darn, I thought. The nightmares are still happening. I sat up, looking at my clock. It's only 2:47? I must have sat up too fast, because I felt a wave of sickness overcome me. I rushed to the bathroom, quickly flipping on the light switch. I leaned over the toilet bowl, vomiting. Once I was done, I stumbled over to the sink and opened the medicine cabinet. I reached for my toothbrush when I saw a pink box. It read 'Pregnancy Test' I looked at the box and grabbed it, not even thinking. I sat it on the counter and opened it up. I took the little white stick out of the box and sat down on the toilet. I lifted up my nightdress and peed on the stick. I placed the test on the counter, face down. The box said to wait 3 minutes, so I got up, washed my hands and brushed my teeth. Thinking it had been at least three minutes, I sat back down on the toilet seat and held my breath as I picked up the test. 1, 2, 3, I told myself before turning over the stick. I flipped it over and it had 2 lines on it.

"Surely that can't be right," I accidentally said out loud. I must have said it a bit too loud, because in less than a minute, Zach popped his head in the door.

"What'cha doin'?" He asked me.

"Nothing, just sitting here, on the toilet, just like normal," I said, sounding very suspicious. Zach looked at me, not believing any word I just said. He walked over to me, taking the stick out of my hand. Before he could read it, I quickly said,

"I peed on that." He dropped the stick as quickly as he picked it up. He put two and two together and realized that it was a pregnancy test.

"Are you pregnant?" He said, whispering the word 'pregnant', like it was a bad word.

"Yes, now go back to bed," I said, standing up.

"Who's the father? Is it Justin?" He asked me, intrigued.

"Mhm, now for the last time, go to bed," I said, getting agitated.

"Fine, but you have to tell me all of the details tomorrow," he said, backing out of the room. I smiled to myself, realizing that I was actually pregnant. Me, pregnant. It seemed crazy. Unreal. I flushed the toilet, and walked back into my bedroom. I placed the test on top of my dresser and got into bed. I closed my eyes, but thoughts kept accumulating inside my head. Me, with a kid? The thoughts kept piling up until I rolled over and saw the sun coming up. I sprung out of bed and went to go wake up Zach. I walked into his bedroom and said,

"Zach, time to wake up."

"Huh? School is out, Trish. Or is the pregnancy making you a bit crazy?" I playfully punched him, telling him that I was going to take him to Noah's house.

"Really? I don't even know him that well! He was in a couple of my classes, and that's it," He said, protesting.

"Well, Zach, I'd take you to other friends houses, but let's face it, you don't have any friends," I said, trying to be sincere as possible.

"Uh, I do too! Like Mary -- well, she moved but she still counts. And Rick, he moved too, but -- well, I can see where you're coming from, but, what I'm trying to say is that I do have friends," he said, trying to convince me.

"Well, maybe later we can look into a summer program for you." I said, trying to reason with him.

"Like summer camp, uh, heck no!" He said, jumping out of bed.

"No, no, not like summer camp, just a place you can go a couple of times a week when I have to go places. It could be fun, and you would actually have friends.." I said, trailing off.

"Uh, ok, we can look." He said, walking out of the room. I assumed he was going to get dressed.

"Noah's mom is coming to get you, she has breakfast at her house." I heard him mumble 'okay' as I headed back to my room. I put on an old hoodie and some leggings. Today was going to be a lazy day. I turned on the TV to the news channel. "BREAKING NEWS: I'M YOUR HOST,  TRACY THICC, AND I'M HERE TO TELL YOU SOME WONDERFUL NEWS. A MISSING BOY HAD BEEN FOUND-- WHAT? HE WASN'T? OH..OKAY. SORRY FOLKS, SCRATCH THAT, HE HAS BEEN FOUND, BUT NOT ALIVE." Sadly, I knew exactly who he was talking about. Justin. I muted the TV, not wanting to hear anymore and just started to cry. I couldn't hold it in anymore. I started to sob and just couldn't stop. I kept mumbling Justin's name, thinking about how we didn't know each other that well, and also how my, scratch that, our children would be raised without a father. Ha, I though if my mother was here, she would have a fit. Remember Patricia, no having sex with boys until y'all are happily married, you understand?  In fact, that was the last serious conversation I remember having with her. I started to cry harder until my phone started to ring. I picked it up and it was a number that wasn't in my contacts, but was a local number. I picked it up.

"Um, hello? Who's this?" I asked, politely.

"Uh, yes, hello. Is this Patricia?" A man asked

"Yes, this is she, why?" I asked, getting worried.

"I am Justin's father.. and it seems that you were the last person he texted.. before he--" He paused, choking back a sob. "he died."

"Oh.. Yes, hello Mr. Meyers." I said, tears coming back to my eyes.

"We-- me and Justin's mother were wondering if you'd like to come over." He said, sniffling.

"Oh! Today?" I asked, surprised that they'd want to see me, but also happy because I has wanted to meet his dad.

"Yes, today. If possible." He said

"Um, sure! I'll have to tell my brother I'll be picking him up later than expected." I said, glancing at the time.

"Nonsense! Pick up your brother and we'll come by in about 30 minutes." He said, hanging up before I had a chance to say anything. Goddammit. Today of all days? I guess I'll have Noah's mom bring Zach back. I thought to myself. Dialing her number, I thought about if I should tell Justin's parents about the pregnancy. They would want to know, right? Or would it make them too sad?

"Hello, Trish?" Noah's mother said, interrupting my thoughts.

"Oh! Yes, sorry, I was wondering, if it wasn't too much trouble, could you bring Zach back home?" I said

"Of course! Him and Noah really hit it off today! He's welcome here anytime, and so are you." She said, sincerely.

"Thank you! Oh, before you hang up, has Zach eaten lunch?" I asked

"Yes he has! He ate grilled cheese and some homemade fries." She said

"Okay, thank you so much!" I said, not really knowing what else to say.

"I'll be there in about 15 minutes." She said, hanging up.
