After dinner was eaten, I got everyone’s plates, like I did every weekend when mom and dad went away, loading them into the dishwasher one by one. I asked Jess if she could take Emma upstairs and tuck her in. So now it was just me and Noah and…oh shit.
After a minute of silence Noah said, “Hey, I need to talk to you about what happened after school today.” He casually sipped his apple juice box and set it down aside the sink. He folded his arms and leaned against the counter. Looking at me as if I were the one in trouble. Cocky MotherF-
“I’m listening.” I said drying a plate and setting it aside.
“Well, you see um. Julie? I was going to ask you if you wanted to go to the dance with me. But , in a more than friends sort of way, but I chickened out, so I got mad at myself and took it out on you! I’m very sorry.”
I was shocked. I accidently dropped the dish on the floor and it shattered. I quickly got down, picking up the pieces of white glass off the ground. Noah bent down to help me. And as I reached for a large piece next to his hand we both reached for it at the same time. He took my hand and folded it in his. “I think this…us...feels right.”
Just at that moment Jess bounced in. “OOKKK, The little tyke is sound asleep.I can't believe she didn't eat any of this delicious food, but i guess on a delicious scale, macoroni and cheese is a close second. now Noah…”
We quickly got up and were careful not to arouse suspicion. I threw the pieces away and let Jess talk to Noah. She had gone through all the trouble in coming over to my house and pretending to be excited to see me so why shouldn’t she get to talk to him one on one. She’s just been spoiled so long, she makes herself a little too comfortable. And it isn’t her fault really, it’s just the way she was raised.
I quickly scrambled out of the kitchen, ran up the stairs, locked my bedroom door and finally breathed. He thinks “us” feels right? What does he even mean? There’s never been an “us” has there? I mean he’s been my best friend since I could remember and now he wants to be with me? Oh god, I felt like I was going to vomit. It’s ok Julie; it’s just your nerves. No wait! It’s actual vomit! I quickly ran into the bathroom and threw-up most of my dinner and some from lunch. I must’ve gotten food poisoning or something. A few minutes after I cleaned up myself, I heard a strange noise coming from downstairs. I wiped my mouth with a towel and scurried down there.
What I saw next, was absolutely horrific. There was Jess sprawled out on the floor, pink glitter all over her. She was puking uncontrollably! And right all over Noah’s clothes. I felt so bad for her. She tried to make the best 20th impression she’s had on him, and what do you know, she ends up blowing chunks on the poor guy. I grabbed her arm, took her to the downstairs bathroom and let her hork it up. When she was done, she came out of the bathroom looking like shit. Her makeup all smudged and her hair was flat.
“Are you ok Jess? You don’t look so good. I’m going to call your mom to come pick you up, you can’t drive like this!”
“NOOOOO I think I’m…” but before she could finish, she hacked up some more. I dialed her mom’s cell and told her everything. She understood, and came to pick her up within ten minutes. I waved goodbye to my poor friend and closed the door.
I walked into the living room and turned on the T.V. I flipped through the channels and settled on Law and Order: SVU. My favorite show.
“Wow Jules! I know you too well.”
Oh GodI had almost forgotten that he was still here. I turned to get a look of him. He reeked of puke and he looked pretty disgusting. “Need some help over there?” I asked. A moment went by and we both started laughing so hard! “Haha haha! Shut up and help me.” He said playfully.
