Noah was talking to Gus for a while then he came and sat by me at our Dean Martin section. “What was Gus saying?”

“Ohhhhh he was just telling me about the specials today! I thanked him but told him we always get the same thing here because we love it. He’s always trying to get us to eat something new each time we come here.”

“Well don’t you like a little change?”

“Don’t you like spaghetti?”

“Touché…”

I noticed Noah had a small bag in his jacket pocket that he quickly crumbled and stuffed down on his lap. “Find something for your parents?”

“Uhh what? Oh this!?” He said pulling out a small box from Landry’s Jewelry Store. He took out a small little pink box in the shape of a heart. “I found something for a very special little lady…” He said with a grin.

He opened the box all the way. It was a pretty silver locket encrusted with tiny jewels, looped around a dainty silver chain. I couldn’t believe my eyes! It was gorgeous! It was the prettiest thing I’d ever seen! “AWWW Noah!! It’s soo beautiful!!”

“You think so?” He said as his eyes flickered.

“Yes absolutely! Emmy will just love it! She will just go ballistic!”

“…What?”

“Yeah she’ll love it, absolutely!! Great idea! Why didn’t I think of that?”

“Julie I actually got this for…”

“Oh man! Do you think our food will be out soon? Gosh I am starving I ordered the breadsticks but I don’t know maybe that’s too much plus the…”

“Julie…I”

I quickly tried to interrupt him again. I knew where this was going and I wasn’t ready to talk about it. I tried stalling as long as I possibly could.

“But then again, the drinks haven’t come out yet and I don’t know what Gus is doing back there In the kitchen, but its taking quite a while don’t you think so?”

“Julie please…I really need to…”

“Oh I just love the decorations here and Oh look at that, they have new one edition of Jimi Hendrix’s guitars! Oh look at…”

“Julie!”

“So did you see that special on the news? They say that penguins are migrating this very minute! Isn’t that interesting that…”

“Julie STOP!” He shouted. He threw his fists on the table. “I KNOW THAT YOU MAY NOT LIKE THE IDEA OF ME HAVING FEELINGS FOR YOU, HELL I DIDN’T LIKE THAT IDEA EITHER!”

“Noah , your making a scene, I really don’t want to talk about this. I think…”

“WELL NEWSFLASH THIS ISN’T JUST ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK! For God fucking sakes Julia! Will you stop shoving me out and listen?!” I stopped my breath and listened to Noah and each individual word slipping from his mouth. He stood up and was ready to give a speech to me in front of the entire restaurant. Climbing onto the table next to us, he clapped his hands to silence the room.

And as he did so, I watched him comand the crowd and waitors like a conductor, about to unleash an opus so deadly and intense that he needed complete silence to come up with the words to say.

He opened his mouth, and single handedly changed everything.
