The night after, I was still sobbing. I had to stay quiet, though; Mrs. Minkus had to come in three times to shush me. I decided to go on my social media for the first time since I had been kicked out. Not much was happening on my personal account, and I didn't dare look at my personal feed; the millions of photos of Riley and I would force me to break down. Instead, I signed out and went onto my art account. I saw I had a message.

Dear Maya Hart,

My name is John Harris and I own an esteemed art gallery downtown. We have viewed your work and are impressed. We would like to meet in person to discuss a few things. Please message us back as soon as you receive the message.

Sincerely,

John

My heart leaped. This was my chance. My chance to get my art out there! I immediately messaged him back and we decided to meet at the park tomorrow. Maybe things would be alright after all.

In the morning, I looked through my things. I had something cute yet casual; perfect. I slipped the lace black top over my head and into the short denim skirt. I then stepped into some combat boots and combed out my hair. Just as I was about to leave, Farkle walked in.

"Good mornin', Maya," Farkle said, eyeing my outfit. "What are you all dressed up for?"

I bit my tongue, contemplating whether or not to tell him. I decided yes and handed him my phone.

"That's amazing, Maya! I'm so proud of you-"

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Doesn't that seem a bit fishy to you?"

"I'm sure it's fine," I said, shaking him off. "Besides, I'm a tough girl. He wouldn't dare try to kidnap me."

"I'm coming with you," Farkle said, walking out to get dressed before I could argue. I sighed. He had better not embarrass me.

Oh, jeez. It's been about two months! I'm so sorry. Anyways, August 5 was my birthday!
