I was putting the finishing touches when Mr. Harris arrived.
"Wow, Maya," He exclaimed. "This looks amazing. We definitely made the right decision recruiting you. Now, we have decided.."
"Yes?" I said.
"We would like to sign you to our gallery."
I gasped. I quickly signed it. "Thank you so much."
"Keep up the good work, Maya," Mr. Harris smiled, patting my back. Then he walked away to discuss with some things with other people. Soon, the people started arriving. I sold all but two paintings. The Riley and I one, and a picture of a lonely girl that I had create the night before.
I looked around the gallery, and then I saw Mr. Harris speaking with someone. I couldn't make out who it was because I was so far away. But what I could make out was the fact that he looked very very familiar.
"Maya?" A sweet, sad voice chimed.
I looked up from my thoughts to see Riley.
"What are you doing here, Riles?" I said, proud of how stable my voice sounded.
Riley gazed at the painting of the the two of us and finally took out a hundred dollars from her wallet.
"Here," She said softly. "APSCA is my favorite charity."
I wrapped up the painting and gave it to her. "Have a good day." I turned to pack up as the event would be over in a few minutes.
"Maya, wait."
"What is it, Riley?" I said.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have responded that way. It's just..I was surprised."
"Why?" I asked. "You know I wouldn't have just broken up with Lucas."
"Yeah," Riley responded sheepishly. "I do know that."
"Then why?" I said again.
Riley took a deep breath. "I'm a lesbian, too."
