"Wait, WHAT?" I practically screamed. I would have screamed if it didn't mean losing my job.

"Yeah," Riley said softly. "After you came out to me, I told Lucas and broke up with him. You showed me that it was normal. I guess I just reacted wrong in the moment."

I nodded. I knew what she meant.

"So you feel the same way?" I asked, my heart about to burst.

"What do you mean?" Riley said.

She didn't understand what I was talking about, but I thought, why would she tell me she's lesbian if she didn't like me back?

"I mean, you love me back?"

Riley took a moment to comprehend what I said, and finally, she bit her lip and answered. "I didn't know you felt that way."

Uh oh.

"Maya, I love you so so much, but as a friend. I am so sorry."

"Oh."

"I am so so sorry," She repeated. I stopped her.

"It's okay," I said. "You don't need to apologize for how you feel."

Riley sadly nodded. I mentally pleaded for her to go away, but she didn't. I could tell that she could read by my face that my heart was breaking in two.

"I have an announcement," A voice said. We looked at the stage. Mr. Harris was standing there, with a mic.

"By request, will Maya Hart please come up here? And bring your final painting." I took a deep breath, I wasn't sure what was going on, but I honestly didn't care. When you heart is broken, the world is broken.

I took the painting and brought it up onstage.

Suddenly, the mystery figure from before came onstage.
