I had Charlie sat with me and Annie at the far side of the room keeping out of the way because this was my Aunty Elvie and Kair's house so I was avoiding mingling because I had no where to hide.
"Momma?"
"Yeah?"
"Can we go outside with my bike?"
"It's icy outside sweetheart?"
"OK, when we get back home?"
"Yeah, sure." I murmured twiddling his hair between my fingers as he twisted mine. He slid across to Annie. She smiled "What's up trouble?"
"Nothing?" He giggled. He sat up and said slowly "Where's dad?"
"He was taking some of your presents into the room?" Annie said softly
He nodded firmly "Good, coz it saves you and mommy doing it later?"
Me and Annie giggled
"What's funny?" He said slowly
Nothing." I said gently
"Something has to be funny for you to laugh?"
"You're just very cute?" Annie murmured
"I'm not cute grandma," He folded his arms behind his head and crossed his legs cooly "I'm four now so I'm awesome?"
We both giggled again
He ran his hand down his face "What's funny now?"
"Hey?" Finn muttered sitting beside me and taking my hand gently
My dad followed and Charlie scrambled onto his knee "Hey kiddo." He muttered kissing the top of his head before saying to the three of us "Anyone else feel awkward?"
"Yup." Finn agreed and Annie nodded
"What's awkward?" Charlie called out as Kair came over
"Hush up kid." My dad mustered as she came closer
"Hi lily," She said stickily kissing me on both cheeks
"Umm, hi?"
"So," she turned to my little boy. I knew what was coming then and I clenched my fists and my anger only just simmering "Is that Charlie?"
"Yeah?" Finn said slowly
"Oh." She glared at Charlie and he buried his head in my dad's shirt. He glared at her "Leave the boy alone?"
