12. The Other Jack

Chapter 12

You sat tapping your foot on the ground, a nervous habit you've always had. Kelly and Leo had left the hospital about an hour ago but you insisted on staying. It was almost midnight and your eyes were feeling heavy. You got up from one of the hospital waiting room chairs to get a coke from the vending machine. The walls of the hospital were painted light blue and the ceiling was white. You walked up to the nearest vending machine and bought a coke. When you returned to your seat, someone was already sitting there. It was a boy that looked about your age with dirty blonde hair. He was tapping his leg nervously too. You walked over and say down in a seat close to him.
"Hey, are you okay?" You spoke in a slightly shakes voice. He lifted his head from his hands and you saw that he looked just as tired as you.

"Man, you look almost as bad as me."

"Wow thanks." You said sarcastically.

"Sorry." He laughed. "I just meant you look as tired as me."

"No it's fine. I bet I do look pretty tired. I've been here since five."

"Woah. Is there someone you're waiting for here?"

"No I just thought it'd be fun to sit in a hospital waiting room for a couple hours."
He laughed at your sarcasm. You laughed and said, "My friend got hurt earlier today so i thought maybe if I stayed here long enough, one of the nurses would let me see him."

"Oh. I'm Jack by the way." He said with a weak smile.

"Oh that's funny, my friends name-"

"Friends of Jack Gilinsky may come and see him now." A nurse spoke out to the waiting room.
You and Jack stood up at the same time and looked at each other.

"Hey what are you-"

"Wait-"

"You know Jack?"

"Yeah he's my best friend. Oh wait, are you Olivia?"

"Yeah..."

"Oh okay. Jack and I have been friends since kindergarten."

"That's a long time. Jack and I met at the beginning of the school year."

"Cool. Well, we should probably go see him now."

"Oh, yeah."
You both followed the nurse down a wide hallway.

"Wait, so if you and Jack are such good friends, why did you come so late to see him?"

"His mom called me earlier but I had to drive from Grand Island and borrow my moms car but she didn't get off work until nine, so it took me a while."

"Wow."

"Yeah."
The nurse finally stopped at a door that said room 106 and you both inside. You followed behind Jack J into a small room with a few balloons and flowers on a table in the corner. The moment you saw Jack you ran over to him.

"We gave him a sedative so he might be a little out of it. His parents just went downstairs to the cafeteria so you guys have him all to yourself for a while." The nurse said.

"So he's going to be okay?" You asked.

"Of course." She smiled at you.

"Thank you so much." You told her.

"You're welcome. He should be fine but press the red button on the side of his bed if you need any assistance. I'll be right in the other room."

"Thank you." You smiled at her and she left the room.

"Hey man, it Jack and Olivia." Jack J said. Jack didn't move. His leg was in a cast and his face had stitches and bandages all over. "I really hope you're awake because I just drove almost three hours to get here, and Olivia's been waiting here for like 20 hours." You let out a small laugh. Suddenly Jack opened his eyes and smiled.

"Damn dude you look terrible." Jack said to Jack J. You leaned over and hugged him.

"I'm so glad you're okay!" Tears started falling down your cheeks so you wiped them away with the sleeve of your hoodie.

"I almost die and all I get is a hug? No kiss?" You shake your head and roll your eyes. "You are so pretty... And you smell pretty." Jack J looks over to you and raises his eyebrows. You both laugh hysterically. "Ya know, I think we should date. Then I could smell you all the time."

"Dude, I would stop talking if I were you." Jack J said.

"You don't know what you're saying. You should get some sleep, we'll be right here for you when you wake up." You added.

"Okay." He looked up at you and smiled brightly. "I'm glad you're here with me." You blushed and smiled at how cute he was right now while he was sleepy.
You and Jack J walked over to the other side of the room and sat down.

"You can get some sleep too if you want. Here's my pillow."

"Okay, thanks." You took the pillow from Jack J and tried to prop it up behind you but nothing you tried was comfortable.

"Um, you can lean against me if you want."

"Uh, you sure?"

"Yeah."
"Thanks. Again." You propped the pillow up against his shoulder.

"Goodnight."

"Goodnight."
Your eyes got heavier and heavier until you finally fell asleep.
