Lily had decided to go to the hospital and Ethan had decided to accompany her. As they drove, they listened to slow music that calmed lily's nerves slightly. Once they got there, Ethan waited right outside the room for lily as she said, she wanted alone time with her grandma.
When she walked in, she noticed that Carol was awake. She smiled widely at lily and she returned a soft smile back. Lily walked over to her and sat on the seat next to hers.
"hey grandma"
"hey kid, how are you?" she asked.
"I'm good as long as you are"
"I think I'm pretty good" her grandma told lily, even though they both knew it was a lie.
Lily stared at her grandma, tears stinging her eyes. She let a tear fall and a second one followed. She held her grandma's hand, feeling how cold and lifeless they felt.
"what happened?" she asked.
"darling, I don't know. I was just in the kitchen singing and next thing you know, I'm here at the hospital."
Another tear falls,
"what am I going to do without you? I'll never survive" lily spoke, her voice barely audible.
Her grandma wiped her tear. She started at the young lily. Seeing her natural beauty and her concern. She could remember her being a baby just a while ago and here she was, all grown up. With friends finally and with a happy life. She was so proud of lily, she couldn't even put it to words how much she loved her and cared for her endlessly.
"you'll survive, I know you. Your a strong lady, how I'm so proud of you. Already 18, it's sad how I won't see your wedding, but whoever Marries you, I know they will love you like you deserve it. And keep you safe. And if they don't I'll always be up there, watching down and I'll make sure they do. You'll survive darling"
Lily cried even more, making a single tear fall from her grandma too.
"I love you so much grandma, please don't go" she cried.
"I love you so much than you can ever imagine" Carol replied, her voice getting weaker and weaker.
"don't leave me!" she shouted, tears streaming down like a waterfall.
"I'll never leave you, I'll always be right here" she said, pointing to her heart and with that the only sound that filled the room was she sound of the monitor signaling her heart flat lining and a bunch of doctors walking in.
Her ears ringed as she told herself this wasn't reality. She fell to the ground. No tears escaping her eyes. She had a blank look on her face as Ethan engulfed her in a hug. She didn't move, she didn't hug back, she just merely said;
"she's gone"
