"I'll never change, never will

I'm so afraid of the way I feel

Days when the rain and sun are gone

Black as night

Agony's torn at my heart too long

So Afraid

Slip and I fall and I die"

This solo is as old and familiar to me as my ABC's by now. In my jeans and bare feet I pace my home studio practicing for our next leg of the tour in Europe. The amp is cranked as loud as it can go as I play, the mirrors on the wall in front of me reflecting the two way glass that separates me from the sound studio and my lab as I call it. Sara is out of the hospital after two weeks of convalescing, Maylor is in jail on half a million dollars bond. The good doctor is outraged at me and Stevie for being so neglectful as parents as to allow our daughter to take drinks from strangers...

That fucking bitch.

Never mind her husband is the dangerous stranger who nearly killed a ten year old girl. Kit tried to apologize to Sara over the phone, but Stevie summed up both of our feelings on the matter with one sentence "Stay the fuck away from my daughter". I love my wife. She's sweet, and shy, and bubbly, but mess with someone she loves and that all goes away. She's a ferocious momma bear a force to be dealt with. Just the right amount of sugar and spice, and everything nice.

One of the fringe benefits of knowing Weisman and giving him that interview for his column, he's been able to spin both Stevie's affair and Sara's illness in the press on our behalf. We gave him a few quotes and assurances that our family is dealing with the tragedy of what happened in privacy and that we appreciated the support and love of our fans. The readers ate it up, and the number of "Scarlet Mitchell is a lying homewrecker" letters far outweigh the "Your wife is a slut" ones. Not that I read our fan mail, but according to Robin we're doing pretty good. Robin is the official president of the Buckingham Nicks fan club.

Our mail for Fleetwood Mac is handled through the record company, and I don't usually read any of it. My fans, the ones I'm the most invested in are the ones who have been with me and Stevie since Fritz. Not that I dislike what the band has done for us professionally, but as Stevie says there are five stars in Fleetwood Mac. Only two in Buckingham Nicks. And when she performs, just the one. So for that reason we keep our personalities separated.

There's a fine sheen of sweat covering me as I play, it's a nice hot California day...yippee. Mick's drum track is playing as I work on my part, my head down in concentration. When I get to the second verse I move my body to the music. I'm no dancer, but getting the rhythm helps me concentrate

"I've been alone always down

No one cared to stay around

I'll never change

Never will

I'm so afraid of the way I feel

Days when the rain and the sun are gone

(Black as night)

Agony's torn at my hear too long

(So afraid)

Slip and I fall and I die Yeah

It's how I feel

Days when the rain and the sun are gone
