It looked like Connor was about to say something else, but unexpectedly, Captain Fowler called for you.
"Hank, (Y/N), in my office!"

You and your partner got up and made your way to the Captain's office. For some reason, Connor followed as well. While somewhat confused as to why, you didn't think on it further, seeing as you were too curious to hear what Fowler wanted from you. Once inside the office, Hank and you took a seat at the Captain's desk, while Connor stood somewhere behind you.

"I've got ten new cases involving androids on my desk every day." Fowler started off, and your thoughts immediately went back to the number of files resting on your own desk. "We've always had isolated incidents," he continued "old ladies losing their android maids and that kind of crap... But now, we're getting reports of assaults and even homicides, like that guy last night... This isn't just CyberLife's problem anymore. It's now a criminal investigation and we've gotta deal with it before shit hits the fan." He looked at you and your partner. "I want you to investigate these cases and see if there's any link."

"Why us?" Hank responded harshly, clearly not pleased with the situation. "Why do we gotta be the ones to deal with this shit? (Y/N) may be a great detective and all, but me? I am the least qualified cop in the country to handle this case! I know jack shit about androids, Jeffrey! And I doubt she does either." Hank looked at you, and you shook your head slightly. It was true, you being kind of fascinated by androids didn't have to mean you knew much about them... You opened your mouth to say something, but the Captain continued. "Everybody's overloaded! I think you're perfectly qualified for this type of investigation, especially with (Y/N) as your partner."
"Bullshit!" Hank yelled and shot up from the chair, almost making you jump. "The truth is nobody wants to investigate these fuckin' androids and you left us holdin' the bag!"

"Hank, I'm sure we can handle this..." you tried to calm him down.

"CyberLife sent over this android to help with the investigation." Captain Fowler kept going. "It's a state-of-the-art prototype. It'll act as your additional partner."
"No fuckin' way!" Hank raised his voice even further, and you became increasingly worried. Meanwhile, Connor just kept observing from a safe distance. "I don't need another partner, and certainly not this plastic prick!" he pointed back at the android. You looked at him, and as his eyes met yours, you felt a slight heat enter your face... Perhaps from embarrassment? You couldn't think of anything to say, so you just gave him an apologetic sort of look and turned back to the other two.
Fowler continued to yell. "Hank, you are seriously starting to piss me off! You are a police Lieutenant, you are supposed to do what I say and shut your god damn mouth! Just like (Y/N)!"
Hank looked at you for a moment, before turning back to the Captain, leaning towards him slightly. "You know what my goddamn mouth has to say to you, huh?"
"Hank...!" you exclaimed, slightly uncomfortable at that point.
"Ok, ok. I'll pretend like I didn't hear that..." Captain Fowler replied, "... so I don't have to add any more pages to your disciplinary folder, 'cause it already looks like a fuckin' novel! This conversation is over!"

Hank looked around for a moment and took a breath, and you were about ready to leave, before he went on. "Jeffrey, Jesus Christ! Why are you doin' this to me?" he asked him, lowering his voice now, leaning onto the desk. "You know how much I hate these fuckin' things. Why you doin' this to me? To us?" but Fowler was having none of it. "I've had just about enough of your bitching. Either you do your job, together with (Y/N), or you hand in your badge. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got work to do."

"... Gah!" and with that grunt, Anderson stormed out of the office, leaving you and Connor behind in uncomfortable silence, the whole room being filled with tension.
"I- I'm sorry Jeffrey..." you said quietly, "I'll try to do my best with this."
"Yeah, good luck with that. Kick Hank in the ass for me, alright? He seriously needs to get his shit together, (Y/N)."
"I know, I know... I'll see what I can do, sir." You assured the captain.

Out of nowhere, Connor chimed in. "I'm very pleased to have joined this team. I can assure you I will also do my very best-" but Fowler didn't let him finish. "Close the door on your way out." He responded without even looking at him. The android paused for a moment and looked at you, seemingly unsure as of what to do. Yet again, you could feel that you were blushing just a little, and you were trying your hardest to think of something to say.

Jesus Christ, what is it with me today?

Connor could tell you were sort of lost. "Have a nice day, Captain." He ended up saying.
You blinked a few times "Right... See you around, Jeffrey." You finished off, before getting up and leaving with the android.

You made your way back over to your desk, where Hank was already sitting in his chair, slouched down with his arms crossed, and visibly upset.

You proceeded to take a seat in your own chair and glanced over at your partner, trying to think of a way to make him feel better somehow. Seeing Hank like this made you kind of sad, since you knew a little bit about the reason he despises androids so much. He vaguely opened up about it before, while having a drink together at a bar.
Connor stood to the right of you and began talking. "It's an honor to be working with the two of you. I'm sure we'll make a great team." He looked at you, smiling slightly. "That's nice of you." You smiled back politely, while Hank said nothing, not even looking at any of you. "In any case," the android carried on, "I'd like you to know I'm very happy to be working with you. Is there a desk anywhere I could use?" Hank and you looked at each other for a moment. There was no available desk nearby, but you came up with a quick -and perhaps rather silly- idea.
"Uhm, I guess you can squeeze in to my right and use the Computer for now, if you want..." You suggested. "You serious, (Y/N)?" Hank looked at you with his eyebrows raised. "Don't get too cozy with that tin can now, will ya?" he teased. You just shook your head and shrugged him off as Connor grabbed a chair and put it next to you. "I appreciate the offer, Detective (L/N)." he said politely, and sat down facing the computer. You made sure to scoot to the left a little, so both of you would have enough room. "Actually, (F/N) is fine, Connor." You couldn't help but smile at his efforts to be as polite as possible, and out of the corner of your eye you could see Hank rolling his eyes in response to your friendly offer.

Connor began analyzing the deviant case files, you went back to your paperwork, and Hank started playing with his tablet.

While having this exceptional android as a new partner may be cool, you still weren't all too comfortable with the whole situation... As previously established, you really had nothing against androids. Hell, you wouldn't even mind owning one yourself. Not just as a caretaker or anything; With your kind nature, you would most likely try to properly befriend it, if that was even possible...

Who knows, maybe Connor could become my friend somehow...

You wondered about that for only a second before quickly brushing off the thought, reminding yourself that he's merely your work partner, and still just an android after all. A machine that doesn't feel, programmed and assigned to a task it would probably be willing to accomplish at any cost. While that normally doesn't hold you back from being friendly towards all androids, your heart still sank a little and you let out a barely audible sigh.

You were quite unsure about hunting down deviants, actually... But you do love your job, and your partner Hank in a way as well, so you were somewhat conflicted...
While in pretty much all deviant cases you've seen so far, they seemed to be the aggressors, you couldn't help but wonder if it was possible for all of them to be so bad. Maybe they had reasons... Maybe something terrible happened to them. Maybe sometimes they were the victims, acting in self-defense. You've observed humans mistreating their androids before, and you couldn't stand seeing it, so it wouldn't surprise you if your assumption was correct.

They can't possibly all just be bad, right...?
