I had a pen in my hand ready to sign, but I was having a hard time doing it. I wanted to be divorced, it just didn't seem real. I took a deep breath and signed the paper and immediately felt as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
"Thank you miss.Singer," the judge says and I nod.
Tyler's lawyer basically has to force him to sign it and it feels like an eternity before he does.
"Thank you Mr.Dobbs," the judge stands up and looks at both of us before saying, "court dismissed."
I walk out of there as fast as I can, after all I finally got my boot off a few weeks ago. I walk quickly to my room and let out an exasperated sigh, it's done. I can't believe it, it's finally over.
I hear a knock on the door a few minutes later, "who is it?"
"Maxon," he says.
"Come in," I say as I sit up.
"You look relieved, Ms.Singer." He says with a smirk.
"I am," I say and let out a soundless laugh. "Are you single?" I ask.
"Yes, as of this morning. Kriss is packing all of her stuff upstairs and I haven't seen her smile so big in a very long time."
"That's great," I say smiling.
"Anyway are you and I still doing dinner tonight?" He asks.
"I couldn't think of anyone better to celebrate with," I say smiling and so was he.
"Neither can I, I will come around 6:00 tonight."
With that he gently kissed my hand and walked out the door.
Mary comes in around 5:00 to help me get ready, she seems so giddy.
"Someone's in a good mood," I tease.
"Just happy to serve," she says grabbing the hair brush.
"Uh-huh," I say, not believing her little story.
She does my hair in a Dutch braid and puts on light make up and I've never felt more me. She puts me in a light blue dress that has a simple elegant lace.
"I think I'm done," she says.
"Thank you," I say smiling, pleased with my new look. She curtsies quickly and hurried out of the room.
A few minutes later I hear a knock on the door and suddenly I'm nervous.
"One second," I say.
I grab the pepper spray out of my drawer and stick it in the pocket of my dress. I'm honesty so paranoid of the what if's, like what if he hurts me, what if he's just like Tyler, I just want to be cautious.
I go and answer the door and Maxon is leaning on the door frame.
"You look beautiful," he says.
"Thank you," I say as I reach down and touch a part of my dress.
"I like that you finally look like you," He says. Okay, so maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.
I blushed and he offered me his arm, "only if you want to," he says. I had to blink back a few tears, that was the first time in years I had been given a choice. I smile at him and gladly take his arm. "This way," he instructs as we walk down the halls. He was smiling so wide, it was hard not to smile with him. We past the dining room and I furrow my eyebrows and start to get nervous, I put a hand on my pepper spray just in case.
"Where are we going?" I ask.
"To the roof," he says.
"Okay," I say as I gently take my hand off the pepper spray. We reach the roof and it's beautiful, there is a small table and I small white lantern in the middle of the table.
He pulls out my chair for me and I sit down, I look in awe over the Angeles skyline.
"Thank you," I say as he pushes me in.
"Your welcome," he says as he takes a seat himself. A maid shortly brings up our dinner and we thank her. We both dig in to our food and it's so delicious.
"I forgot how good the food was until I came back here," I say.
"That was your favorite part," he joked.
"Hey not true," I fired back.
"Okay, What was your favorite part?"
"People," I say.
"Like my Father," he joked again.
"Definitely, we were tight." I smile and shake my head, he really hated me.
"Obviously," he says.
"What's it like?" I suddenly ask.
"What's what like?" He asks.
"Being King, having the weight of the country constantly on your shoulders, what's it like?"
"It's stressful and hard in all honesty, but I get to do amazing things so it's all worth it."
"Like what?"
"Building schools, helping more people find work, meeting people from all over the world and helping them."
"Wow," I say.
"It's amazing America, truly, I wish you could see it all."
"It would be incredible," I say, thinking of all the possibilities.
"I want to show it all to you one day." The way he said it almost made it sound like a promise.
"Isn't that what the queen does?" I ask.
"Possibly," He says. I tried to think what he was really wanting to say, but I wasn't there yet, so I just shrugged it off. I maid comes and takes our plates and lays out strawberry tarts.
"How did you know?" I joked.
"Lucky guess?" He said giving me a a wide smile.
After we finish desert we head back up to my room.
"Thanks for tonight," I say.
"No problem, I would love to do it again."
"Me too," I say. "It was nice to be treated like a Lady for the first time in awhile."
"That's what you deserve," he says. "Never settle for anything less than that."
I nodded my head, as we reached my door.
"You have your first meeting tomorrow at noon," he says. I had almost completely forgotten about my new job.
"Okay," I say.
"America, would you be interested in doing stuff like this all the time?" He asks.
"Like dinner?"
"And different things together," he says.
"So dates," I say.
"Yeah, if that's okay." He says.
"I'll think about it," I say and I kiss his cheek and quickly get into my room.
