Excerpt from 'Peaceful Mother's Day' [the short story]
To wish the birth mothers of our three children happiness on Mother's Day feels inappropriate, even cruel. And so, my wish is for acceptance and peace for you on all the days when your loss and sorrow are overwhelming.
I think of you particularly on 'special' days such as Mother's Day - a celebration for others, but not for you. The personal cost of making your decision must have been tremendous. Surely, countless times in the past, and others yet to come, as your life and circumstances change, you must seriously doubt your choice. If indeed you had a choice. I write this as a Mother's Day present to each of you, in thanks for giving us the most precious gift in the world – your child.
