I figure it's probably the same number as people to eat an elephant... just one person, one bite at a time.
(Which sounds plausible... IF you had a freezer big enough to keep it in! And an exceptionally large appetite, too! )
Bizarre pink and grey blossoms on our poor old dead tree that day... but they made me think of another time and place at our most beautiful farmhouse that overlooked a dam, spanned by a power line to the shearing and machinery sheds on the other side.
Whenever we had a shower of rain after many dry days, the galahs would flock to that power line to have a bit of a freshen and spruce up. They provide THE most entertaining spectacle, as they spread their wings and spin around until they are hanging upside down, flapping furiously as if to thoroughly air their under-wing area. They spin around several times, only stopping upright now and then to squawk loudly. Don't know if they were boasting of their new-found cleanliness or maybe loudly declaring -
'I'm singing in the rain - just singing in the rain.
What a glorious feeling, I smell good again!'
No wonder the 'Aussie' dictionary definition of a galah is not only an Australian cockatoo, Kakatoe roseicapilla, having grey wings, back, and crest and a pink body - but also (Australian slang) - a fool or simpleton.
What a joker Mother Nature can be.
