Our notice to our farm-gate customers concerning our price rise in 2015.
We have been selling eggs from our farm since 2001 on the honour system of the eggs being in a wall cupboard in our garage and a plastic container on the benchtop below for the money, with a little change.
We have had only one set of light fingers taking the eggs and the money - and that was within the first month or so of starting. We had the feeling it was the culprits returning when a battered old car filled with a motley crew of rough-looking and speaking individuals pulled in exactly a week later (on pension payday, I do believe) and had to scrounge through all their pockets to find $2.00 for one dozen.
Kanute told them most earnestly about our theft of the week before and how miserable we thought such individuals were, stealing from old age pensioners. They oohed and aahed and wouldn't meet his eye, and left as quickly as they could. Funnily enough, we never saw them again. And even more unusually, we never ever had another cent missing.
'Be sure your chooks will come home to roost'
seems a most appropriate description of karma in this instance.
