After the weekend I'm more than happy to throw myself back into work. Beth was home now and recovering well while my best friend vented to me about her sexual frustration since said girlfriend was laid up for the foreseeable future. I sneak out of my room, closing the door gently so as not to wake up Alison but the woman has ears of a bat. I make it down to the kitchen before the sound of her feet padding across the floor is obvious and I let out an amused chuckle as I turn around from the coffee machine.

"Morning Ali" I greet her, turning around to face her. She groans, reaching forward and stealing my cup of coffee and bringing it to her lips.

"I hate mornings" she grumbles as she takes a seat at one of the bar stools. "I am head over heels in love with that woman and I will do anything for her but I am exhausted" she yawns, burying her head in her hands while she leans against the counter.

"Not in the good way I presume" I tease, cracking a smile. She looks up and glares at me making me chuckle as I roll my eyes and take a seat beside her. "Alison, the love of your life is alive. Shit may suck right now but once she's fully recovered everything will be go back to normal."

She sighs. "What if I had lost her?" she whispers. "I-it would've been my fault. If I wouldn't have suggested that we left-."

"Fate it fate" I argue, "and she's going to be fine so if I were you I'd take some fresh coffee up to her and cue up some Netflix while counting your blessings" I add causing her to stare at me blankly. I furrow my eyebrows at her while I take a sip of my own coffee. "What?" I question.

"Who the hell are you and what have you done with Joshua Matthews?" she asks confusedly making me chuckle.

"What do you mean?" I question causing her mouth to drop open in disbelief.

"Are you serious?" she gapes. "You're Josh. You're the most cynical and pessimistic man on the planet. You never believe that everything will work itself out and be totally fine...unless" she trails off, her voice raising in a suggestive tone. "Oh my god did something finally happen between you and Maya?" she shrills.

I bring my bottom lip between my teeth. I suppose it would be impossible to keep this from her forever but that didn't mean that it didn't scare me. Opening up and admitting that there was something going on was a huge step for me. I didn't do relationships but with Maya I couldn't help but want just that. I cared about her and I wanted more than anything to make her my girlfriend...even if it made things at work infinitely complicated.

"We're working on things" I reply vaguely, not wanting to admit to too much. I knew Alison and if I gave her too many details she'd never let it go.

"And?" she presses. I seriously hate her sometimes.

"And that's it" I shrug. "But I should really be getting to work anyway...you know, things to do and balls to throw" I add as I finish off my coffee and stand up, placing my cup in the sink before turning to grab my keys off the counter but annoyingly my best friend has her manicured hand firmly wrapped around them. "Alison-."

"Have you kissed her?" My lips lift into a smirk.

"We've had sex, what do you think?" I tease. She rolls her eyes.

"I mean since then you asshole" she groans. "You know, now that she actually likes you."

"She already liked me" I reply cheekily. Ali was too east to mess with, she was easily irritated and it didn't take much to get under her skin.

"Ugh" she groans in annoyance. "She thought you were attractive, there is a huge difference. Ask any woman alive" she adds snippily. "Now answer the damn question."
